Suddenly there seems to be rush within consumers to strictly COUPON SHOP i.e. look for coupons and plan your shopping list around it, to save money. The general shopping experience is kinna of satisfying, when coupons or discounts availed or getting a promotional value. However, forgetting the fact apart from items you need๐, there were some items on the list that you do not๐ require immediately or use frequently but anyways you saved bucks...
Check this out -
Ur need -> Wanna buy shoes of Brand that is fairly reliable, lasts for a year and no hanky panky stuff.
1. Goto to reasonable store at the mall or Kohls (desi touch), get it for around 49.99.Get out from there.
2. Look for coupons; get a whole discount catalogues for some stores, WOW 40% off at xyz store๐, plus $5 off on 1 item๐๐. Goto the store passing few desginer shirts๐ etc .... shoe section -> Buy $99.99 shoe for $64(40%) - $5 = $59 . While checking out the catalogue for the coupon u can use, u come across those designer shirts in Aisle are at 75% off. ๐ฅณWow๐ฅณ again, What a bargain?๐... u end up spending $175...still feeling good about it. (I know in case of women might end up at 350, don't wanna trigger another Men Vs Women here).
Does scenario 2 actually help you save money?
Do we understand that coupons / discounts / promotions are basically marketing strategy to lurk consumers๐ to spend more? How it helps saves then?
Wouldn't you end up saving more if coupons/discounts are set aside and shopping is done purely on basis on what is NEEDED and shop at stores that have lower mark ups, by luck if you have coupon for what u need at that store well &good, orelse coupons are best unclipped๐?
BTW - Am reminded of this (return-policy) topic https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/debate-mansion/586219/return-policy-good-or-bad while back when I was on a spree of opening 375 topics in a year๐๐ gone are the days! ๐
