Return Policy - good or bad?

Almost all stores in US offers return policy. With few exceptions, it essentially means that if you are not satisfied with merchandise you bought, can simply return it for full refund, basically stores striving for 100% customer satisfaction on any purchase. In fact in GA state law, any merchandise even if you have signed all agreements can be returned, if you are not happy with purchase.

This policy is manupilated by many in terms of buying stuff utilizing it, and then later within specified period returning it and buying again from a different store... this goes on. Doing so, revenue on papers and actual revenues gained by companies is impacted.

1. In your opinion as a consumer - returning a merchandise for any reasons after you actually bought it, a good offer?

2. In your opinion as a business owner - return policy a good thing to offer?

3. On all returns, should stores charge a mandatory re-stocking fee?

4. Is it ethical to use some product and return it? for example buying a Boom Box for party, as u don't need it so returned it back in the morning saying you were not satisfied.

5. Should returning policy is something that should be enforced in India also?

If sounding like a discussion, well here is the debate question

A. Is RETURN POLICY good or bad offer?

Raj, wow.. how do you come up with all these topics dear? 👏

1. In your opinion as a consumer - returning a merchandise for any reasons after you actually bought it, a good offer?
Yes, because I don;t do it for fun. I do it only when absolutely necessary and sometimes, when things don;t work, you need that. I had returned a DELL laptop I bought for someone.

2. In your opinion as a business owner - return policy a good thing to offer?
Sure! FRYs made big bucks on being lenient on that one. It attracts more customers.

3. On all returns, should stores charge a mandatory re-stocking fee?
If the returned piece is Damaged / Faulty, NO! For other reasons, like don't like the color, size if wrong, changed my mind etc.. yes

4. Is it ethical to use some product and return it? for example buying a Boom Box for party, as u don't need it so returned it back in the morning saying you were not satisfied.
absolutely not. I had an apartment mate who used to get new TV every year for supebowl sunday 🤢 and when criticized, he insisted he wasn't the only one doing that so basically asked us to

5. Should returning policy is something that should be enforced in India also?
No point! There is nothing called efficient law-enforcement there anyway. Why bother? It opens another avenue for ghooskhori (corruption).

If sounding like a discussion, well here is the debate question
A. Is RETURN POLICY good or bad offer? 🤢 🤢
Good, but returns should have valid reasons.

2. In your opinion as a business owner - return policy a good thing to offer?

Yeah, shows that they are lenient and will allow you to return stuff as if they never allowed it, customers would not buy their products if they felt they would not eb able to return it if need be,.😳

3. On all returns, should stores charge a mandatory re-stocking fee?

Ha No😆 If the product is faulty then NO WAY in hell, its their fault that the product is faulty, so why shuld we pay for damaged goods?😳

Maybe just for stupid reasons then maybe😆

4. Is it ethical to use some product and return it? for example buying a Boom Box for party, as u don't need it so returned it back in the morning saying you were not satisfied.

2. In your opinion as a business owner - return policy a good thing to offer?Of course...

3. On all returns, should stores charge a mandatory re-stocking fee?No...

4. Is it ethical to use some product and return it? for example buying a Boom Box for party, as u don't need it so returned it back in the morning saying you were not satisfied. Its "ethical" to do the following

1. Buy one get one free and return the free one for full refund..

2. Buy stuff in states which dont have tax and return it where they ahve tax.. thats earns you some money..

3. Buy a wedding dress.. return it after wedding... on grounds of not being satisfued..

😆😆

5. Should returning policy is something that should be enforced in India also?In india you cant return of leave and reenter the store... returning money from the merchants view point is in auspicious....😆

If sounding like a discussion, well here is the debate question

A. Is RETURN POLICY good or bad offer? Good... its allows me to try so many things without actually buying it...😆

edit - numbering the questions

its good from the consumer's perspective only if s/he is having a genuine reason to return the good that s/he isnt satisfied with

but when we see from the business' perspective it is good to some extent as it grabs more customers and increase the sales of products they are selling.. it is a way to compromise a lil to gain more :D but when consumers take advantage of it and misuse the opportunity the seller is giving them.....

2. In your opinion as a business owner - return policy a good thing to offer?

as I have said it is good to instantiate the process of marketing for your firm but it doesnt really work in long run ;)

3. On all returns, should stores charge a mandatory re-stocking fee?

we kno one should be intelligent enough to run a business... and a perfect businessman's policy should result in either no-loss-no-gain, or profit... if there is some offer a businessman is introducing then there must also be another way thru which he can compensate with the loss he may face... it depends on the kind of response they are getting on offering such schemes... if it clicks then shall continue introducing more and more... which not only keeps the customers satisfied but also customer-satisfaction towards the store/company/firm which is the main criteria for any business to run is gained means you've almost won the battle...

4. Is it ethical to use some product and return it? for example buying a Boom Box for party, as u don't need it so returned it back in the morning saying you were not satisfied.

no... it feels so bad to misuse any offer which one has given for your satisfaction and we in return are unable to pay to that favor :(

5. Should returning policy is something that should be enforced in India also?

India is a very large country & to apply any scheme one needs to have a good control over the market happenings and rise & falls of the revenue - research in the field iff planning to inroduce a new offer... previously gained facts & figures as a result of such schemes are also considered... and the quality of the product that the businessman is offering is also a matter of concern... there is a notion that any original product cannot be returned but can be exchanged... returning means not having a good quality of product and blah blah... but the offer can be introduced when it comes to design and pattern of the product but that also has gotten many conditions like shud be unused

If sounding like a discussion, well here is the debate question

A. Is RETURN POLICY good or bad offer?

entirely depends on the person - for consumer: its obviously good ;) and for businessman: its good when the customer is using policy legally right, also gaining their confidence :))

Anshu-man excellent topic... would expect a coolest debate discussing this issue ;)

1. In your opinion as a consumer - returning a merchandise for any reasons after you actually bought it, a good offer?

Yes by all means. I only return when I have a reason for it not for fun or amusement.

2. In your opinion as a business owner - return policy a good thing to offer?

Yes indeed. It is a part of customer satisfaction.

FRY is the worst in return policy where I live. Majority of people wkng in nearest store are indians including mgr. They are very bad in customer svc to the point of RUDE. No Professionalism. We refuse to go there. Best Buy is the best IMO. (No Offense meant to anyone)

3. On all returns, should stores charge a mandatory re-stocking fee?

Not for the damaged or faulty products. For other products they can charge but it should be on their store policy so consumer is aware.

4. Is it ethical to use some product and return it? for example buying a Boom Box for party, as u don't need it so returned it back in the morning saying you were not satisfied.

Never and I am strong believer of that. I have heard of some people doing that including clothes, wedding dress. I am dead serious. Indians are guilty of that too 😳

5. Should returning policy is something that should be enforced in India also?

No point in enforcing anything in India. Thye will enforce how to cheat people for sure 😡 😆.

If sounding like a discussion, well here is the debate question

A. Is RETURN POLICY good or bad offer?

It is always good with the right intentions and reasons.

Aww thanks QT - heated arguement inspires ma thought process😉😆 to create more.

1. In your opinion as a consumer - returning a merchandise for any reasons after you actually bought it, a good offer?
Yes, because I don;t do it for fun. I do it only when absolutely necessary and sometimes, when things don;t work, you need that. I had returned a DELL laptop I bought for someone.

even though its in working condition, right! Okies

3. On all returns, should stores charge a mandatory re-stocking fee?
If the returned piece is Damaged / Faulty, NO! For other reasons, like don't like the color, size if wrong, changed my mind etc.. yes

Problem is when the store refuses or has a counter argument when you say piece is damaged. Basically store disagrees accept its defective and can gladly take it back but remember😉 you signed some paper to pay restocking fee😃

Was your roomie desi.. no no offense just asking out of c.

5. Should returning policy is something that should be enforced in India also?
No point! There is nothing called efficient law-enforcement there anyway. Why bother? It opens another avenue for ghooskhori (corruption).

😕 never mind.

If sounding like a discussion, well here is the debate question
A. Is RETURN POLICY good or bad offer? 🤢 🤢
Good, but returns should have valid reasons.

lols have my own verdict allow to respond to comments, and later reveal😉

If need be = faulty piece, I agree otherwise why to buy something keeping in mind that u can return it.

Valid but nowaday these guys offer service help on defective piece. Arguement is "we agree there is a problem, don't worry our technician will fix it - here is 1-800... please call and schedule an appointment" 😉😊

Maybe just for stupid reasons then maybe😆

5. Should returning policy is something that should be enforced in India also?
