Van Unknowingly Drags Man's Body 17 Miles On 3 Highways

After being struck by one car, a man was dragged by a second vehicle through 17 miles of highway from Queens into Brooklyn early this morning. Police have not been able to identify the man who was originally struck by the SUV at 6 a.m. in Corona, not far from Shea Stadium and would not be discovered until the van's driver arrived in Coney Island an hour later. Along the way, the body was dragged from the Grand Central Parkway to the Van Wyck Expressway and then onto the Belt Parkway before other motorists flagged the driver down.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly spoke to the press describing the incident:
"The victim is struck by the first car. That driver reports that he believes he struck somebody, but apparently right after he strikes the individual the body is hit again by another vehicle and dragged a total of what appears to be 17 miles until eventually that driver stops...(The driver) did stop once during his trip, he reported, but he didn't see anything unusual and got back in the car."
The victim had originally been trying to cross 108th Street near 51st Avenue and was eventually discovered on on Brighton 10th Terrace. The Daily News says that the driver smelled something burning, but was not sure what it was. City Room describes that the body was stuck lying "parallel to the car, the head and shoulders protruding from beneath front bumper."

A witness in Coney Island said she recognize the maroon Chevy van belonging to Cancun Express car service. Its driver, identified as Manual Gaspar Latuna Sanchez, believed that drivers in front of him were trying to avoid a pothole when they were likely steering clear of the body after it had been struck by the SUV. No charges are expected for either driver. Kelly also said that a cadre of uniformed police officers was retracing the van's route in search of body parts and articles of clothing.

This is such a horrific accident... and soo close to my house.. Do you think either driver should be charged..? Was the second driver somwhat responsible, he should've been more alert..

in houston they are worst accident. this was in jan when I was going to school. one of the ford truck crashed into a mini van and that mini van hit a 18 wheeler and it flipped. don't know what happen after that. it was totaled .

in this case the family can charge the man because you have to look around your car when you hit something... I think that's one of the policy too.

also there was one last year where a 18 wheeler ran over a car. becareful while you drive...

Man runs 1km with hand stuck in Metro
NEW DELHI: In an alarming incident, a Metro marshal was dragged through the tunnel between Rajiv Chowk and New Delhi Railway Station — a distance

of about 1km — hanging precariously from the train, his hand stuck in the door. The incident occurred around 7.45pm on Friday.

The man, Satinder Kumar Jaiswal, a 'commuter facilitation agent', was ushering in commuters on the Line 2 platform when he was pushed forward by the crowd. The doors closed and the train began moving. Contrary to the claims of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the doors didn't detect the "object" and open. The passengers were horrified but none had the presence of mind to inform the driver on the internal communication system.

Jaiswal, in his late twenties, quite miraculously escaped with minor injuries and was rushed to hospital from New Delhi railway station. The train was going from Central Secretariat to Jehangirpuri.

A DMRC spokesperson claimed that Delhi Metro train doors were designed to detect objects more than 15mm wide and automatically open and shut again in a matter of seconds. Obviously, on Friday, that didn't happen. DMRC is inquiring into the incident.

Speaking to TOI at LNJP Hopital, Jaiswal recalled his brush with death: ''I was at Rajiv Chowk station and there was a rush. As the doors were closing, the crowd pushed me and my hand got stuck. I was dragged till New Delhi station."

Jaiswal belongs to Gorakhpur and is an employee of Bedi and Bedi Security Services. While Jaiswal was being shuttled between floors at the hospital till 9.30pm, when the police came in, he was heard saying: ''I just want my treatment.'' He was worried about ''losing (his) job or being shifted out''.

Asked if his hand was held from inside by some passenger, Jaiswal said: ''No one held me. I was clinging all the way till the train halted."

The first thing that came to my mind when I read this article! At least Ludicrous's stop way before driving 17 miles!

This case is really horrible and tragic....once you get behind the wheel, you have to be aware of your surroundings....I'm sure both drivers can be held accountable....
