Dr Simran shifts to London
Dearth of good roles and desire to be with husband makes Nikki Aneja Walia say bye-bye to television and Mumbai

As Dr Simran of Astitva Ek Prem Kahani, Niki Aneja Walia became a role model for several women in the country. The show that made Niki a household name, is finally wrapping up next month. With this Niki will pack her bags and move to London.
"I am shifting to London but I don't see why this news should shock anyone. My husband Sonny is based there. That makes it my home as well. I'd come to India to shoot. And now that the show is ending I don't see why I should stick around," says Niki.
The actress says that she'd rather spend time with her husband, who has been patiently waiting for her to return. While on one hand Niki is looking forward to re-uniting with her husband, on the other, she is disappointed that there is a dearth of good work to keep her back.
"If I had some worthwhile work to keep myself busy in India I'd have stayed back. But I think there is shortage of good roles in the television industry," she says. The optimist that she is, Niki is sure of making a comeback shortly. "I want to do more of television and films. But, I do not think I want to do saas, bahu, bhabi or auntyji roles. Now, when I take up something, it has to be better than my role of Dr Simran in Astitva. I will not compromise for anything mediocre," Niki asserts.
On being choosy about roles, Niki elaborates about the concept of doing something 'different'. "Every actor or producer I meet says that he has a role for that is 'different.' But trust me it's no different from any other clichd character or show on television," opines Niki after having worked non-stop for three years. So, shifting to London qualifies as a break for her. "My priority after I get back home will be cooking. I want to hit the kitchen because that is something that I've genuinely missed doing. I want to live the life of typical housewife, which I haven't done so far," she adds. Any plans of starting a family? "No plans as yet," she asserts.
