What's a book(s) you guys absolutely detest, and it was torture for you to read it (whether you had to for school or your friends forced you, etc)? What are the reasons for this dislike? Is it the way the characters are portrayed, the writing style, the message of the book, the plot, etc.

It has to be "The Tale of Genji" Absolutely the most boring book I have ever ever read! In fact nothing happens except that he keeps going after another girl and then another. It's supposed to be world's first novel and that's why that much importance was given to it but it's absolutely not worth reading.

I can't say I detest it but after reading so much about it, I thought I should read it too but when I started reading it, I was quite bored. I have yet to finish it 😆😳

godison - I'm surprised! I certainly wouldn't pick it up for a re-read out of the blue, but thought it's a pretty engrossing story the first time around.

Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld was one awfully pointless book. Maybe it was because I couldn't relate to it at all, or maybe it was just that bad. One book that I couldn't for the life of me figure why I picked up or wasted time reading.
