I would agree on some points ....Some of the offbeat actors like Abhay Deol, Kay Menon, Ranvir Shorey, Vinay Pathak have rarely been acknowledged at award ceremony... When a film flops it does not mean that the actor in it performed badly... sometimes its not the actors fault but its the script...

Most of the awards are given on the basis of popularity - Konkana sen was not recognized till her movie 'Omkara' came out... She was classified for unconventional cinema - when she should have been recognized for Page 3 too...

Awards on a larger extent like people said in this post is based on popularity - the movie that is the biggest box office hit...

This is why Aamir Khan does not attend or accept awards in India (e.g. Filmfare, Star Screen etc). People making fun of him for attending Oscars should now realise that Oscars are genuine and in India they are set up or are won by favourites of panel of judges.
