Debutants to look forward to in 2009

Last year was a big year for debutants, with Imran Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Prachi Desai, Rajeev Khandelwal, Anushka Sharma and Asin making it big at the box office. Here are 2009's fresh faces, all of whom will be hoping that the debutants' lucky streak continues.


Jacqueline Fernandes
Jacqueline Fernandes, Miss Sri Lanka, 2006, stars in Sujoy Ghosh's Aladdin. She will play Jasmine, while Ritesh Deshmukh plays the title role. The film will release this summer.


Pakhi Tyrewala
The wife of Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Na director Abbas Tyrewala, Pakhi makes her debut in 1-800 Love, which stars John Abraham in the lead. The film is being directed by Abbas and produced by John Abraham. The film will be shot in Boston and is expected to release by the end of 2009.


Jackky Bhagnani
Jackky, the son of producer Vashu Bhagnani, is being launched by his father in the film Kal Kissne Dekha. This film is directed by Bhoothnath director Vivek Sharma and will also feature cameos by SRK, Sanjay Dutt and Juhi Chawla. The film is expected to release by May, 2009.


Lisa Lazarus
Another model, Lisa Lazaraus is Miss Universe UK 2008 and according to many, also Katrina's look alike. She will be starring in Salman Khan's Veer, which will release in mid-2009.


Fierda Pinto
She made her debut with the award-winning Slumdog Millionaire, which is releasing in India on January 9, 2009. The Mumbai gal graduated from St. Xavier's College before signing the film.


Vaishali Desai
Vaishali is the lead actress in the Vashu Bhagnani-produced romantic-thriller Kal Kisne Dekha. She is grand-niece of famous director Manmohan Desai. She was Miss India International in 2005.
