Thats what a majority of the people think ...
CM sheila dixit said "women shld not try to be adventurous" in relation to working late... the ACP of mumbai said that women should dress "decently" otherwise they themselves are responsible for anything that happens to them...
the very people who are supposed to protect us claim that if a woman stays out late/ dresses non-conservatively/ smokes or drinks/ has a live-in relationship -- then she is immoral and is inviting rapists and assaults and it is completely her fault....
How many times have you heard your aunties complain about the loose character of some girl she knows simply because of her clothes or her preference to have a lot of boys in her friend circle ....
Is there any hope for a attitude change in a country where the idea of a balaji-type heroine is still considered the ideal daughter and daughter-in-law ?

Yep, it's all the woman's fault...always. Even as a six month old, 2 years old or a six years old child, she is the one who tempts the seedha saada ddodh ka dhula males into raping her!!!

I would love to know of all girls/women who get raped, how many of them fall in this category? If conservatism alone can tackle problems like rape, we would not see any conservative burka clad muslim woman ever getting raped.
The problem lies in the male attitude. The so called "chaloo" girls who dress porvocatively, are promiscous, have boy friends etc, are unconventional are also the ones who usually freak out the males. Rapists are not men of great moral strength. They usually look for easy submissive targets. They would not dare cross an unconventional modern woman or a chaloo woman ( I happen to distinguish between the two and no, none of them deserve to be raped) who will drag them to the court - thanks to her liberal thinking.
Sorry, I do not buy this "blame lies with woman alway for inviting rape" theory. The fault is always going to be that person's who forcibly took what he was not supposed to in the first place. Just because someone is rich doesn't mean the thieves are justified in attempting a robbery. No one let a thief go with a warning and blames the seth who was travelling with cash on the basis of the fault being the seth's riches. Why should poeple then point fingers at the girl who has been victimized? I refuse to rationalize rape or rapists. They are criminals and they should be dealt with as strictly as possible. Only then we can see rape cases going down.

What baffles me most is when women themselves accuse other women of bringing rape upon themselves. To a certain extent I can forgive men when they say women bring rape upon themselves, because a man does not know what it is to be a woman.

Women like to look good, feel good, be considered attractive and yes many do want to be acknowledge as sexually attractive. But at the same time they do have their personal sense of virtue and respect.

I think we can only see a real change in attitude towards women, when mothers instead of repressing their daughters into a drab dull life start instilling respect for women in their sons.

First and foremost, we are all individuals.

All those individuals with average functioning brains (ie vast masjority of people) should therefore be responsible for their actions and behaviour.
However, a mother's contribution in nuturing her sons is a huge responsibility which I'm afraid, in my opinion, a lot of typical Asian mothers fail in.
If mothers mollycoddle their sons, treat them preferentially to daughters and generally continue to propagate the crap that boys/men are more important than girls/women, that men should have upper hand in everything and are to be worshipped, fasted for even, then I'm sorry, is it any wonder that these so called "men" have no respect for women?
I know I'm hugely generalising but these mothers have a hand in breeding monsters and probably rapists too.
As for those women out there who come out with "she wore clothes like that so she asked for it" type of drivel - you ought to be ashamed of yourself - women should never be an enemy of womanhood - any such women have my pity as well as contempt.

One word: disgusting.

Even suggesting that someone invited rape through wearing revealing clothes or staying out late is unacceotable.
NO ONE invited rape - it's a terrifying ordeal for anyone to go through and can leave emtoional, physical and mental scars for life.
I completely agree with the views of the people above me.
In most rape cases, it's not even sexual attraction - it's a crime of anger, frustration or showing power. Even if it is originated from sexual feelings toward the victim, saying that the woman is at all responsible for it almost justifies the actions of the rapists.
How can we fight against these atrocious crimes when some are even trying to put the blame on the women?
This is just as bad and John McCain rape jokes - or when some horrendous people remark that if a woman is getting raped 'she might as well enjoy it'.
I feel sickened at these and can't believe some people even say these awful things.
