Amitabh Bachchan has sympathised with slain police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who was killed by terrorists in Batla house, Jamia Nagar, in New Delhi , when his team raided their hideout. Sharma was killed in the gun fight, in which two terrorists were also killed.

In his blog update, Bachchan shares a thought-provoking SMS that he had recieved.

'An ace shooter wins Gold and Government gives him 1+ crore. Another ace shooter dies fighting terrorists and Government pays him 5 lakhs. Guess the real winner!' Bachchan wrote.

The superstar's reference is to Abhinav Bindra's gold-winning performance at the Beijing Olympics and Sharma, who died fighting terrorists in Delhi.

It's not that unfair either.

Don't we always go overboard while celebrating wins that are few and far between in sports - be it cricket or olympic gold medals?

Think about it Ashu, who do you think is the true hero here? Who has a family w/o a bread winner now?

I think we need consistent approaches for rewards- especially the monetary kinds. If one is truly elated, they should feel free to applaud as much as they want but keep the monetary rewards consistent.

I'll develop my line of thinking above later. Gotta go to the gym now. Nice to see you back here, Doc🤗 Hope all's well at your end😊

Completely fair comparison. I don't begrudge even one paise of what Abhinav Bindra received, but army and police personnel who dies on duty are also as much a hero as any other award winning sports person. And as Gauri pointed out, Abhinav Bindra will continue to win medals and earn money but it's the family of officer M.C.Sharma who've lost the bread winner and that too fighting for the general public which may be a part of his duty but doesn't directly link to his interests. In this regard who's entitiled to more money??
I won't say that give an award of 1 crore to M.C.Sharma, because awarding such a sum for every person dying on duty may not be possible for the govt. But they definitely need to review what they pay out in case someone dies. Afterall, 5 lakhs is nothing in todays market, and we all know that his widow will receive a pittance in the name of pension.

What Bindra did brought fame to COuntry. So to give him award was to show the appreciation and sport.
What Officer Sharma did was to save Bindra and all of us.
What Bindra did made the nation proud of him
What Sharma did saved the nation
Bindra will continue to get better and hopefully brings more medals, Sharma hopefully has sown the seeds of example of his bravery and it brings some more brave soldiers to fight the evil.
They both brought fame and we are proud of both of them
For Martyr, I do hope that his family does get support through out their life. Bindra will continue to earn but Officer Sharma cannot. as not everyone will leave their son suffering in the hospital and rush to fight terrorism.
Hats off to Officer Sharma.👏

If anybody watches SunTv news, here's a surprise. The news agencies purposely distort the casualty figures. Why? Because the affected families need to be paid Rs. 5 lakhs per family by the government.

One person testified on camera that X number of bodies were loaded to be taken to their funerals, and the news agencies reported a wrong number.

It's not that easy. Even with all kinds of proofs, govt. doesn't easily pay up, do you think govt. will pay 5 lakhs without any kind of verification.
Sometimes news agencies give an unofficial count of casualties as apart from hospital they also collect data from eye witnesses. Everyone knows that official figures are always less and only later on catches up with the unofficial count. But till now I haven't seen any news agency distorting casualty figures.

when i read this sms at other places. i was taken aback too.

And my initial reaction was different. and this sms was in my mind for two three days.

Again reading this topic here.
made me to think differently today.
----
Comparison is wrong,
i started thinking abt appreciation in terms of money too. :-(

without comparing these cases to each other.
i think, govt is wrong abt both.

He is already a millionare, and Govt shud not spend so much money like this. Instead of this, the all ppl who tried and trying for medal, and participated, they shud get good incentives, and facilities.
Giving Award was the work of olympic committee. But as a govt, it shud take care of every participant. Our other player too tried their best in other sports, but their opponents were better.

I think, the good players, they don't want money after winning. their award is their satisfaction. but they want more facilities and training before comptetions.

First Give them the Basics.

In case of "Shri Mohan Chandra" , govt shud make better policy. There are already very few brave police officers. And their family really need money. If other officers will see this type of behaviour, then some of them, may think, before going into a dangerous situation.

Giving the rare Gold Medal winning Indian athlete 1 crore is cheaper compared to giving 5 lakhs each to the families of the people who will continue to be killed in the line of national duty, and on a daily basis. This is called Manmohanomics.
