Rakhi Sawant has decided to dip her fingers in yet another area of entertainment -- Cricket. No, we will not be seeing the Bollywood oomph star donning pads and gloves. She will be the 'Queen Cheerleader' of The Indian Cricket League's indigenous cheerleaders' squad ICL Zeebras.
The squad will be present at every match of the second season of the league which begins in Hyderabad Oct 10, an ICL statement said on Tuesday. "Cheerleading is not just tamasha (mindless drama). It is a sport by itself. Until now, it was the exclusive domain of international troupes. Thanks to ICL, India will now have its own cheerleading squad," Rakhi said in the statement.
Rakhi has personally auditioned and hand-picked the other eight members of the squad. Their performances will be designed by a Mumbai-based choreographer.
"It was during my performance at Panchkula during the first season that I saw a huge opportunity for a cheerleading squad," the actress said. ICL and Rakhi resumed dialogue a few months later and that culminated in the formation of the ICL Zeebras. "I can't wait to don my Zeebra outfit and break into a jig every time Rohan (Gavaskar) or Raviraj (Patil) hits a six. I am sure this will be one cheerleading squad that the country will remember for a long time," she added.
Yes Rakhi, with the drama and excitement you add to everything you do, we're sure this will be true.
