Aamir Khan is all set with his 'ardhnarishwer' image for a TV commercial and that brings back several memories of the men in Bollywood who did not shy away from putting up with the extra bit of lipstick or rouge.
There were men who at the prime of their careers have donned the sari, shaved off their extra hair and stuffed tissues in their blouses. None of them were scared to flaunt their feminine sides to the camera. And guess what most of them were pretty successful in their 'lady' avatars.
Here's a list of all the gutsy Bolly heroes who proved that looking hot and sexy did not always have to mean 'six packs'. Read on...
Amitabh in Lawaaris
Kishore Kumar had donned the extra make-up in a song in Half Ticket. But then, it was a comedy. Playing a girl by him was though not expected, it was a lot more acceptable than the 'angry young man' Amitabh.
The Big B donned the sari and makeup in different styles and sizes for this one song in the film Lawaaris. His 'woman' performance was surely a trendsetter for generations to come.
Govinda in Aunty No 1
Mrs Doubtfire saw Robin Williams playing a woman. Kamal Hassan made the Indian adaptation of the same in Chachi 420. But then again Kamal is known for his make-up. And the gigantic amount of money he spends on them.
When Govinda followed the two and played Aunty No 1, it definitely came as a surprise. His latkas and jhatkas in a sari made everybody raise an eyebrow, though the emotion behind every eyebrow raised was definitely different.
Aamir in Baazi
Not many of us might remember the dole dole dil song in Aamir Khan's almost forgotten film Baazi. Till then we thought it was Rishi Kapoor who looked the prettiest in a female avatar as seen in Rafoo Chakkar. But Aamir sure changed our view.
The cute chocolate boy looked extremely pretty in a black dress with curls falling down on his shoulders. His seductive babe image in the film could have given many an item girl a run for their money! He moved on to become Manno Bhabi in a Coke commercial and now the 'ardhnarishwer' for a different product.
Shah Rukh Khan in Duplicate
If Aamir can do it, so can Shah Rukh Khan. Mannu Bhai the evil SRK in Duplicate donned the seductress image too. He too like Aamir put on the seductive black dress and 'killer' look. The movie did not do too well, but SRK did. And he did well without having to don the lady image ever again. One thing was for sure, the six packs suit SRK better than the sari would ever have.
Salman Khan in Jaan E Mann
The brawny star Salman Khan was not too far behind either. He proved that having muscles could not deter one from displaying their feminine side. He donned the pretty blonde babe image for his film Jaan E Mann.
The muscles oozing out of his sleeveless dress did somehow deter the viewers from accepting the drag image he presented.
Riteish Deshmukh in Apna Sapna Money Money
Riteish Deshmukh donned the dress too. He went all the way with curly hair, pink dress, flowers and the works to become a drag queen. Though his muscles did give away the man in him, his expressions made up for it for sure.
Well in Bollywood, though understanding a woman still remains a dream, becoming one has never been tough.
