August 24, 2008 (Sawf News) - Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif starrer Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani is in trouble. PVR Pictures has filed a petition against Rajkumar Santoshi, the director of the film being produced by Tips, restraining him from working on any films other than theirs.
The first schedule for APKGK had just recently begun.
PVR Pictures (Taare Zameen Par, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na) has moved the Mumbai High Court in a bid to make Santoshi honor the terms of contract between them that forbids him to take up any other work till principal photography of two films that he is working on with them is over!
Industry sources informed, "Few months back, PVR Pictures signed up Santoshi to direct two films for them: a film based on Emperor Ashoka and a romantic comedy titled Backstreet Boys. Ajay Devgan was slated to play the title role in Ashoka and Santoshi even started pre-production work on the film. PVR was very keen to begin both the projects together. But then with Backstreet Boys not taking off, Ashoka too was stalled.
Santoshi meanwhile began shooting Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, toplining Ranbir and Katrina. PVR Pictures is now claiming that Santoshi sold the script of Backstreet Boys to Tips as Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani!
The next date for hearing in this case is September 1st."
Santoshi has the dubious distinction of frequently getting mired in court cases. Just a few years back Tips had dragged him to court after he had overshot the budget of The Legend of Bhagat Singh. Also, Keshu Ramsay, who produced Santoshi directed Khakee and Family: Ties of Blood, had taken him to court over money matters. While the Tips case seems to have been resolved, as Santoshi is directing the aforementioned film for them, the Keshu Ramsay case is still on in the Mumbai High Court.
