The sister of 'Chotey Nawab', Saif Ali Khan, I half prepared myself to courtesy as Soha appeared. Before being a 'film star' the actor is a star-kid, a star-sis and then of course, her family's royal lineage and 'blue-blood' upbringing is something that's touted about to this day. But then she reminds me, "We live in the 20th century India and royalty is defunct now!"
But was it tough to crack Bollywood , given her unique family background? "Yes!" she affirms, "I did face few issues when I started off as an actor. I had finished my studies in the UK and was more comfortable with English, even today I prefer English. In fact, I wanted to be a print journalist who covers international affairs, or then a lawyer, or do something in the corporate sector! Films were not planned but I always had a liking for theatre and my heart drew me towards acting and films happened. But I had a dream recently, and funnily, it was in Hindi... must mean I am improving!" she laughs.
Isn't her sapna of being a journalist being realized in her forthcoming film, Mumbai Meri Jaan? "Yes! On July 11, 2006 the local train service, which happens to be Mumbai's lifeline, was struck by a series of bomb blasts. Mumbai Meri Jaan explores the impact of this devastating incident on the lives of the people of Mumbai. I play a TV reporter who is passionate about her job... The film shows how TV channels for the sake of TRP's are desensitized towards issues like these."
That's some serious cinema, alright! But Soha seems to be getting her fair share of glam as well. Her sexy pic on the cover of Maxim magazine was much ogled at, and so 'oomphy' that big bro Saif was disapproving of it. "Saif and I didn't even have a conversation about it. He has never told me of his dislike, if ever there was any! In fact, Saif was in England working on his home production when the cover was out. But my mother liked it. She said this is what is 'in' these days and thought I looked good."
And what did boyfriend Siddharth think of it? "Siddharth and I are friends," clarifies Soha, "And I don't think I would like to talk about him." Ok, never mind this, but talking about 'talking', the world is talking about her brother Saif and his relationship with Kareena! Her take? "All I can say is Kareena makes my brother happy and she is a sweet girl. It's just that I feel uncomfortable talking about these matters," says the actress, who will have four releases in four months!
