Film releases 20 years later

After 20 years of its original release date, Omar Mukhtar is being released in India.

This relatively accurate historical story about the Libyan resistance leader, Omar Mukhtar (who led Libya against the Italian oppressors during Mussolini's time) is strangely reminiscent of the current situation our world finds itself in.

And as director, Mustapha Akkad says, "This is exactly why we are releasing the film today. Asia and the Middle East are going through this crisis as we speak.

Although the story uses Libya and Italy, I wanted to tell the story of Palestine and Israel, but the Jews control the money in Hollywood, so I had to use another premise for my film. But if you swap countries, the story is the same."

He adds, "If you think about it, we live in an extremely volatile time.

Terrorism started during the crusades and it is still omnipresent today. This is the story I wanted to tell. And 20 years after the release of my film, I think it is extremely timely today."

Times have changed, but we still find ourselves living the same wars. So head to the theatres and watch history repeat itself.
