Hey

what do you guys think of way that british asians are potrayed in movies
it always seems to get on my nervous how much they sterotype.Want to
know what you guys make off it and whats the worst/best potryal you
have seen in movies.

Best has to be for me in Karan Johars movies with characters like Rani
and even with pooja in K3G you see the other side come out in her
despite what shes like near the start lol and films like DDLJ do
good.Worst film for me has to be namaste london so sterotypical not just
of asians either think that kind of ruined the film for me.

So true guys. At times it can really get under my skin when they show a stereotypical take on British Asians. You can't help but think please do your research properly! lol 😆

Indian film makers certainly have a very strange view on British Asians and the lifestyle we lead.

DDLJ was probably the most realistic in regards of the sets of the film, the parental characters, and the general lifestyle.

I think Katrina and Upen's characters were quite real as well....i know quite a few people like them.

The 'Poo' character and her friends in k3g was very unrealistic!

Poo was very unrealistic, it made me cringe 😆 but it's the fault of the writers and even the director 😳 So true about Simran in DDLJ. I liked how they showed her go back to her roots and her emotioanl journey. A lot of Asians feel like that when they go back to their roots and I remember my sis and I got all senti when they saw that in the film, esp with that song playing in the background (ghar aaja pardesi) what can I say, I guess us Desis are emotional fools 😆 😳

in genral if the chracter is outlined as a coconut or typically blonde and dumb (aka poo) then no doubt the chracter has been strerotyped, moreover they happen to show british asians with immense atttiude i sure as hell don't have that, true i can be bit to talkative at home and my tongue can be bit shrp but i relaise when and where to speak!

katrina and upens role was very real but having said that its important that popel hwo do watch the film don't assume that all british asians are like it was merely a protrayal of some of the individuals resided there...
simialr to the characters of goal...how many found it ludicrus that being pkaistani some of them drank unfortunatley this does occur and as much as it pains and annoys me to admit it, it is actually common, howver once again it is only a percentage not the entire population.
the chracters in ddlj were quite truthful, in reagrds to the time it was amde, perhaps even now... yeah becasue simran wasn't a complete gullible desi type she too knew what to say and when take her arguements with raj as an exmaple but yeah she was very rooted and had common sesnse something writers seem to think we don't have!
charming!

so i do agree writers really need to do there research before they create 'typical characters' since they arent typical but stereotypical!
look at the plot line and then the chracter don't just assume acha we we want british asians hence they must be dumb, no nothing of their desi heritage and secondly dress riduculousy (hoesntly tell me how many of you would actually dress like poo in k3g to univeristy!)

I know what you mean!!!😊

I was so annoyed at "Poo" I mean how OTT can you take it?!!😡😆

Katrina Kaif in Namastey London was funny and I know what you mean, there are people like that having to hide their english lifestyle from their parents

not just british asians, but people from america as well, and this stereotype isnt just limited to the industry or directors, its very common amongst our people back home who think of people living abroad to be these SPOILED brats, who've no regards for anyone but for themselves.

It's very irritating because when i go back home, i find myself to be more sensitive and cultured compared to those living there.

i suppose its movies like these that confirm there stereotypes

^well I dont know about British Indians...but even American Indians...some I know totally act that way like Kat and Upen did in NL

but most arent like that because they're connected and attached to their roots..

so its a sterotypical thing

like for Americans.. Indians are the tribal Native Americans ...I swear If I had a dime for everytime I heard..if I do the ritual dance..I would be a millionarie...and also "dont Indias have to wear a red dot on their forehead?"

so sterotypes arent always for us..its what the other side views us as well.
