MS Dhoni is likely to miss the first two weeks of IPL 2026
MS Dhoni is likely to miss the first two weeks of IPL 2026, as he is recovering from a calf strain.
A statement from Chennai Super Kings on the morning of the season opener confirmed that Dhoni is undergoing rehabilitation for a calf injury, likely leaving the team without their star player for the early part of the tournament.
Chennai Super Kings' first game is against Rajasthan Royals on March 30 in Guwahati.
Dhoni, who turns 45 this year, is one among four wicket-keepers in the CSK squad, alongside Sanju Samson (who was traded from Rajasthan Royals), Kartik Sharma, and Urvil Patel. With 278 matches, Dhoni is the most capped player in IPL history.
Over the last few years, Dhoni, playing exclusively in the IPL, has been dealing with a knee injury, but has been a constant presence in the CSK lineup, having led them to their fifth title in 2023.
In the first two weeks, the period Dhoni is likely to take to recover, CSK face Punjab Kings (home), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (away) and Delhi Capitals (home), apart from their season opener against Rajasthan Royals.
