  • What is the exact difference between Withdrawn and Deleted? ----- Answer---This is the exact literary meaning for these words! ---"Withdrawn" and "deleted" are distinct actions in data, library, and content management. Withdrawing typically means removing an item from active use or visibility while retaining it in the system for record-keeping, whereas deleting is the permanent removal or destruction of the item/ content. ------------------ Our reqirement here is, Deleted. Sometimes, members want to delete the entire FF to rewrite or to remove it from the system. In the present FF section--- Withdrawn is using for Completed, which is not correct. Members want the word --Completed. Wrongly, it was added in FF section instead of Completed.

  • How does each status affect the FanFiction listings on the site? ---

Answer---The status mentioned in an FF title or listing plays a big role in how readers choose what to read!

    Completed
When a member sees Completed in the FF title, it immediately reassures them that the story is finished.
Many readers prefer to read such FFs in one go, without waiting for updates.
It clearly indicates that no new chapters will be added and the story has reached its intended conclusion.

    Ongoing
An Ongoing status tells readers that the story is still in progress.
Readers who enjoy following updates, speculating about the plot, and engaging with the author chapter by chapter often choose these FFs.
However, some readers may hesitate if they prefer finished stories.

    On Hold/ Withdrawn
This status signals that updates are paused for an uncertain period.
While loyal readers may stay hopeful, new readers usually approach such FFs cautiously, knowing that updates may or may not resume.

    Discontinued / Abandoned/ Deleted
This clearly informs readers that the story will not be continued further.
Though the FF may still be appreciated for its concept or writing, many readers choose to skip it to avoid an unfinished narrative. But, if any author opt for this, the readers may not be able to see the FF on FF section. But, the FFEs, authors and the Administrator will be able to see this for 3 days[ earlier it was like this] Status matters because---

    Why Status Matters

    Accurate status labeling helps:

    • Readers manage expectations

    • Authors communicate transparently

    • The forum remain organised and reader-friendly

In short, a clearly mentioned status respects readers’ time and enhances their overall FanFiction experience.smiley1

  • Who has the authority to withdraw or delete a FanFiction? --- The Fanfiction Editors (Koeli, Viswasruti), author of that FF and Administrator Vijay, and Paresh Bhai.

  • If a FanFiction is marked as Deleted, will it still appear anywhere on the website (for example, in listings, search results, or user profiles)? This is a tricky question, difficult to answer.smiley1

In general, once a FanFiction is marked as Deleted, it should not appear anywhere on the website. Here’s how it typically works across different sections:

    • A deleted FF should be removed from all active listings and category indexes.

    • Search results:
It will not show up in search results, since the content is no longer accessible. But, the FF will not be visible under the author’s works or activity lists. Sometimes, FFEs /admins may still see deleted entries for record-keeping.

    • Direct links:
If someone tries to access an old direct link, it usually leads to an error message or a “content not available / deleted” notice. Now here are the required / requested updates for FF section -- Please add these words instead of those present words-- Withdrawn, Pending, Active

    • Add these 3 words-- This is what we want to see there.

    • Completed

    • Ongoing

    • Abandoned/ Deleted

Thank you for the clarification. It will help to plan my next steps for implementhing the required functionality.

Just want to be assured that those authors who have opted for 'Withdrawn' to showcase as completed while the completed feature wasn't availablev when the distinction features will be implented in future?

Can you give rights to move and open threads to the admins of the particular forum?

Thanks for raising this.

Before enabling these permissions, I need clarification from our DT team on whether forum owners/admins should be allowed to move, open, or merge threads.

As of now, my understanding is:

  • Forum owners may be allowed to move and merge topics only within the forums they own, including private forums.

  • These permissions should not apply outside their owned forums or across other public forums.

Tagging the concerned moderators here as well so we can confirm:

  • whether these permissions should be restricted to owners only,

  • and whether any additional controls are required for forum admins.

Once we have clarity from the DT team, we can proceed accordingly.

Hello,

Topics of public forums can be moved within IF sections, by CM, Mods, of those forum.

For private forums this feature is restricted to their forum only. Moving topic from 1 pvt forum to another one is not done, as far as I know. Only admin has access to pvt forum features.

Hi SunqianFan,

Thanks for the suggestion.

Just to understand this better — have you seen a “Allow users to quote you (buddies only)” option implemented on any other forum platforms? If yes, it would be helpful to know where this is currently in use.

In general, on public forums, actions like quoting, liking, or tagging are considered basic participation features and are typically available to all eligible users. Adding granular controls for quoting could lead to over-engineering and may complicate normal discussion flow, especially in open forums.

That said, tagging the moderators here as well so they can review this suggestion and share their thoughts on whether this is something worth considering from a moderation and UX perspective.

Agreed. The idea was that in private forums, the admin can trash topics but to not give them further access in case they move topics to a wrong forum and publicize something that other people in that thread may not have wanted public.

While the idea is good, I don't think this is a feature that should be implemented on IF. Some SMs do allow this feature, like FB, X, and IG, but they allow it because people can set their entire profile to restricted and only participate in restricted groups.

Additionally, those sites are very different from IF. The best feature that was offered from IF's perspective was private forums so that people still feel they have a sense of privacy, while keeping public discussions open to all.

Finally, a block feature was introduced for this reason only so that if you don't like what someone is saying or do not want to interact with someone, you can block them, thereby limiting their access to you and your posts.

I have one request. If someone has blocked us, we are restricted from visiting their profile. I think the blocked user should also be able to block the other person. Because in this case, they'll be able to see the post of the person they have blocked but not the other way around.
