Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have been the topic of many a joke over the years due to their lack of an Indian Premier League (IPL). However, this season, they have arguably been two of the most complete sides in the league and are now set to face off in Qualifier 1 with a spot in the final at stake.

Head coach Ricky Ponting and captain Shreyas Iyer seem to have hit the nail on the head in their first attempt itself as the Kings made it to the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade in just their first season with the team. RCB, on the other hand, have been a fairly regular fixture in the playoffs but this is the first time since 2016 that they finished in the top two.

The average score in Mullanpur has been 173 and teams batting first have won three times out of four. It has to be said, though, that the scores here have varied quite wildly. Threre were three 200-plus totals in the first two matches of the season. However, we saw teams being all out for scores like 111 and 95 in the last two matches. In fact, the last match to be played in Mullanpur happens to be between these two sides itself on April 20. At the time, RCB restricted PBKS to a score of 157/6 in 20 overs and won the match by seven wickets. It has been warm and dry days in Chandigarh of late and the forecast is the same for the day of the match. The temperature is expected to hover around 30 degrees Celsius and so it will be a hot evening. There is no forecast for rain.

RCB's spot was secured thanks to Jitesh Sharma’s explosive 33-ball 85, which powered them to a crucial victory over Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium.

What will also delight the three-time finalists is the fact that a team that was traditionally top-heavy and lacked in finishers achieved the feat on the strength of their middle order, with Jitesh and Mayank Agarwal shining.

RCB will also welcome the return of pace ace Josh Hazlewood. Despite missing several matches due to a shoulder niggle, the Australian fast bowler leads RCB’s wicket-taking charts with 18 dismissals in 10 matches at 17.27. Partnering with old warhorse Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the pair has added teeth to the RCB pace attack, traditionally their Achilles heel.

PBKS vs RCB Qualifier 1: AI Prediction

Let’s see what AI is predicting about today’s PBKS vs RCB Qualifier 1 in IPL 2025.

“Punjab Kings have firepower but rely too heavily on top-order runs. If RCB can dismiss one of Arya-Prabhsimran-Iyer early, PBKS might crumble under pressure. On the other hand, RCB are battle-hardened, in form, and have a balanced XI with strong finishing,” says experts.

But in T20 matches, the result will be decided after the last ball bowled!!
