Hello,

Welcome to the buddy read/read-along thread for William Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice.

Rules:

  1. I am open to reading any version and from any publication as long as it is an unabridged version. Click this link to access the books in case you want to read from the same edition/publication. You can also upload your copy if you want to read that one (so that I can also read from the same).

  2. Schedule: for the sake of simplicity and ease, we follow an-act-a-day schedule to accommodate group discussions and any other texts that you are reading at the same time.

So, the revised schedule is:

  1. Monday 5/5/25- Act I, three scenes/ 1.1-1.3
  2. Tuesday 6/5/25- Act II, three scenes/ 2.1-2.3
  3. Wednesday 7/5/25- Act II, three scenes/ 2.4-2.6
  4. Thursday 8/5/25- Act II, three scenes/ 2.7-2.9
  5. Friday 9/5/25- Act III, three scenes/ 3.1-3.3
  6. Saturday 10/5/25- Act III, two scenes/ 3.4-3.5
  7. Sunday 11/5/25- Act IV and V, three scenes/ 4.1-5.1

Members in the buddy read:

  1. Missfiesty_69
  2. Shirsha
  3. LizzynDarcy
  4. Gumnaamhaikoii
  5. ThaneofElsinore

Feel free to add suggestions if you think I have missed something.

Absolutely looking forward to this. Okay I have a doubt. How do we fix a time for discussions ? Or do I just pen down my thoughts here and we can just exchange posts back and forth ?

I think penning down your thoughts and exchanging posts back and forth sounds much better than planning a schedule for the discussion. smiley1

I don't think I am in the mindset to fix a schedule for discussion - because I am gonna read many books simultaneously. smiley39

Hi all,

I have updated the schedule. See if anyone needs to make adjustments.

I think we might need to see the final acts, because although the scenes are less, the acts are not short.

Or we can work with this schedule and manage to read to match the schedule since we have enough time.

Thank you so much for accepting my request to modify the reading schedule!

Bold@, I just checked Dr. S. Sen's book. Yes, the scenes are long.

LizzynDarcy, I have a question. Which page count should we write after completing the drama? There are many publications and editions of The Merchant of Venice on Amazon. We need to choose one of them and write Kindle's page count of that book. And all of us should write the same page count because we will be reading from the same book.

I think, if we agree on reading from the uploaded editions, we can use those editions for page count, share link to the same via Amazon and use the actual count of pages read.

But I think we should confirm this with LizzieBennet once.

@lizziebennet, could you confirm if we should refer to the anthology for reference/link and just put count of actual pages read the same way we do DNF? Except that we dont write DNF at the end.

Example-

William Shakespeare complete works - Arden Edition (total 3000 pages) Plays read - Merchant of Venice 80 pages

Is this okay?
