Yes, Rama took quite a few days. Initially he wanted to crown Bharata and leave for the forest to follow Lakshman's footsteps but Bharata refused and people of Ayodhya aslo were firm in following Rama. Hence Bharata suggested that Rama install his sons on the throne and send word to Shathrugan about what happened. Rama agreed and first installed his sons on the throne - split the kingdom and had cities built for both of them and then performed their coronation ceremony and then sent word to Shathrugan. Messengers took 3 days to reach him. Shathrugan installed his sons on the throne and hurried to Ayodhya and he took three days to reach. When he said he too will follow Rama and Rama agreed. At this time Sugriva, Jambavan and Vibhishana had reached Ayodhya along with Hanuman and other vanaras. I first thought that they must have received word when Rama was planning the coronation but it doesn't make sense that Rama would send word to them first before doing so for Shathrugan. My guess is that Rama sent word to Shathrugan and others at the same time and they flew to Ayodhya (many vanaras had that ability and the ability to change their form at will and probably Hanuman could carry some prominent ones). So, calculating the time to build Kushavati and Shravasti and plan and execution of distributing wealth equally to two princes, the coronation and then splitting of wealth and coronation of Subahu and Shathrugati + 6 days for the messengers and Shathrugan' travel, it must have taken a good long while for Rama to leave Ayodhya.
