It’s a great movie! I think you would love it. It’s a dark comedy so there’s injustice but it ends well! I keep going back to it every other year or so. It has definitely aged well. I have recommended it to a bunch of non-Desi people interested in watching Indian movies and they liked it too.

On top of my head:

Bhakshak (the double layered commentary on the society's lack of empathy and the other wrong doers in the society via the title)

Thappad (though they keep iterating the importance of the slap on the story, the impact it had on every other woman's life, even though they weren't the ones who were slapped, we are reminded of it just from the title)

Swades and Chak De! India

Jamba lakidi Pamba. Funny title and the funniest movie I have ever watched.

I would recommed this movie(old one, not new one) to everyone. I never laughed the way I laughed while watching any movie, every scene was a laughter riot and made my stomach hurt due to laughing smiley37

But it's not a BW moviesmiley36

As I like your recommendations, I quickly looked up the movie and the plot-idea seems good for comedy. Unfortunately, I don't find a source where I could watch the movie with subtitles, only without. Is it more situational comedy or more through dialogues?

And it's again a successful debut movie of a director which is a very satifying watch smiley27

Literally everything about the movie is comedy, From movie title to story to dialogues to acting.. Every scene was a laughter riot and each and every cast did an awesome job in their roles to produce comedy especially Brahmanandam. Even if at all movie has subtitles I don't think those subtiles do even half justice to the kind of hilarious dialogues they wrote in Telugu and the way each actor especially brahmanandam says those dialogues in hilarious waysmiley37

There was one scene where heroine father asks what dowry hero's family will give (due to Reversal of gender roles in the movie) , Brahmanandam is hero's brother in the movie, He says that he give one copper vessel, one silver bowl, One baniyan, 2 panties, one cigarette pack, two match boxes.. etc.etc., in Telugu there are wierd words they wrote for these items and the way Brahmanandam says that dialogue with serious face was gold and it causes me stomach ache due to laughing, I hope you knew Telugu just to watch this moviesmiley36

And there was another dialogue where they need antidote for Jamba lakidi pamba , that disciple of a lady monk prepares an antidote called "Pamba Lakidi Jamba, Pamba Jamba Lamba Lakidi" smiley37 the way that disciple says that name of this antidote cracked me up more than the name of antidote itselfsmiley36
