I think your character sketch of Zaid is very different to mine (not our fault, it’s the writing). For me he’s not a saint and just a *giver* - his actions towards both women have been toxic and questionable at different times. Yes, he’s made these amazing grand gestures of love for Ayra - but he’s also punished her at different times as well. He loves but there’s an edge to his love.

MJ is also not a *giver* - at least so far in her relationship she’s not. Her needs just align with Zaid’s at the moment - their companionship. But I’m hopeful when she gets tested, she will prove she can give selflessly as well. Still waiting on that in the show.

Just watched SH review of Mein. Suddenly Hasan said I know we have been criticising Wahaj but it's bcz we couldn't relate to Zaid & he was praising him. Aamna kept questioning his choices post TB even though Hassan kept pointing out it’s only Mein. She also kept saying that TB is his only hit and Hassan disagreed listing his other hits. Not everything is going to be TB level, can’t hold that as the benchmark in terms of success. Aamna was including MPHT and 22 Qadam as post TB choices. No one loved the story of MPHT but Wahaj’s performance was appreciated and his performance in 22 Qadam is also appreciated. To her credit she admitted that Wahaj is a very good actor so maybe her expectations are unreasonable, I don’t know. I feel she is only happy seeing him as an alpha. Hassan tried to reiterate that only Mein and his movie TMK was post TB and Aamna said he was excellent in TMK.

Pakistan barely has a 1-2% rate of second marriages in reality (shocking, right?) and audiences hateeeee this narrative because despite being actually uncommon there, it was used commonly in dramas for some reason. For the past few years this has declined due to the backlash it faces. Many actors don’t even do a polygamy story if they are aware of it. Which is why I think wahaj had no clue about this or he would never have done it. Zaid’s character definitely doesn’t warrant him signing this project and a polygamy plot would have been a deal breaker.

I think he feels that no matter how weak a role, Wahaj is always able to put in input to strengthen the character which he didn’t do here because he was extremely busy. I think he has but Zaid is designed in a way where he doesn’t talk much or get overly emotional. I feel he’s played him very well but apparently people just want to see him very prominent. I think if you don’t understand Zaid then it is hard to empathize with him. Empathy is important to connect with a character. I really believe some dialogue will help the average viewer connect and put everything into perspective.

About Zaid, I didn't like his character at all as you already know. Now I started warming up (not completely liking but I don't dislike either) . But even when I disliked him extremely, I never felt that Wahaj was bad. I felt he played it so well. Because people like Zaid might be realistic but it's difficult to like them when you see them onscreen. He played it so well.

About SH, even I had stopped watching but I watched just past 2 Mein reviews. Yes, Hasan seem to have some expectations, fair enough. But Aamna was being so weird. Suddenly she feels Wahaj's only hit is TB? But when they used to review TB, she used to always praise about how his previous shows were also good. How can you expect them to meet TB level popularity/expectations now? It was hit but it can happen with any show. Just that they were lucky. I am not saying they we're good or didn't work hard. But many actors work very hard, perform very well & story is also very good but they don't gain that popularity.

Also can't expect Wahaj to have that screen presence like MK did. MK was something different. You can't just do it again. Yes I know wearing shawl, having mooch & playing feudal lord is not new at all. But the way he did it & carried it was exceptional. Can't compare his every other character with MK

Now that Zaid has 2 wives (even though he didn’t ask for 2), technically he has to be fair. He isn’t supposed to feel guilty sleeping with MJ.

Couldn't have said any better. Also that is the reason I don't like when people say it's acceptable in their culture. People don't know the reason behind that ruling, conditions for that to happen and how it is not that easy to actually do it..

I saw people saying MJ looked preg and holding her baby bump in this scene. Really? May be it's just the elegant pose? Because she was in the same dress when she was standing and looked flat.and dress is tight so may be that's why it looked like that while laying..

Oh I agree. Which is why I said it might be fine for the characters but it’s a tricky area for the audience. There is a difference. We are the ones who will be watching the drama lol.

Usually in polygamy plots in previous dramas, if you have a hero with 2 wives, he’s only shown to be sleeping with/in love with one. Which is why I think Zaid/MJ might not consummate in Turkey. Perhaps when their arcs are complete and there’s finally that level of trust and Ayra is out of the picture, then they’ll do it. That’s how dramas usually go about it because they don’t want the hero to come off as insincere.

Of course Mein doesn’t have to follow that rule, but usually in polygamy narratives, they keep the hero a one woman man. Yes it’s technically unfair but it’s to keep the audience from creating an uproar about the hero’s character being assassinated. And I get it - I’m on the fence about zaid sleeping with MJ too. On one hand yes he’ll be doing the right thing, but on the other hand his loyalties will appear fickle 🤷‍♀️ Depends how it’s done too. If the vibe is right it might feel okay
Tricky ground for the audience lol. Not to mention people don’t need another reason to hate on Zaid 😂

so you’re absolutely right about him being fair and in real life that’s how it should be - but he’s a character in a drama. The audience has to like him
