The awards are in Gujarat this time and not at YRF in Mumbai and end of this month on the 28th already. I always thought they gave YRF movie a couple of undeserved awards when it was hosted there. I always thought Screen and Zee Cine happened before Filmfare happened but could be wrong.

BTW for Filmfare voting - I was trying to vote Arijit Singh as Best Singer for Main Parwaana from Pippa and Best Music AR Rahman for Pippa but couldn't find the movie in the list. Is it again because it was an OTT release?

ended up voting Bhupinder Babbal for Arjan Vailly from Animal instead.

Read an excerpt today from KJo interview where he said Animal was the best movie of the year. I will be very disappointed if any film other than 12th Fail wins

When are the nominees announced? I can see Mumbai being slightly biased towards YRF. And it's strange, because I also thought that Zee Awards came before Filmfare.

I checked Pippa and it debuted on Amazon Prime so it would be an OTT movie.

I think 12th Fail will win. Animal is too controversial unlike 12th Fail which was unanimously beloved. Rani spent a lot of time praising that film.

This was posted in Deepika's birthday thread. On her birthday, she won this award for Best Actress for Jawan. Making me wonder if Deepika will be nominated for Best Actress for Jawan instead of Best Supporting Actress. I think she could beat Rani with how successful her film was and having two back to back blockbusters with Pathaan and Jawan as momentum, plus Fighter upcoming.

Voting is till 7th Jan. So hopefully by the end of next week, we should have the nominations.

Oh damn. Pippa music was outstanding. I can see a time when OTT awards will be more interesting to watch. Even OTT movie Kho Gaye Hum Kahan is so amazing. Such a relevant movie for the times we live in. "this generation doesn't know the difference between 'want' and 'need' " dialogue struck such a nerve when the father said it to his son in the movie.

Thanks for confirming. I hope we get a good list of nominees and not useless filler.

The thing that will hurt OTT awards is that they will never have the same caliber of stars that theatrical films have.

This will be shocking though. Imagine the plight of Nayanthara who I think was actually the lead actress in the movie. All through pre-production, and through marketing and PR pre-release it was mentioned Deepika has a 'cameo' in the movie. I will be shocked if she's even nominated for Jawan for BSA let alone BA and win BA. She deserved something for Gehraaiyaan but lead actress for Jawan will be too much.

But I share your concern as most Mirchi awards are completely survey and listener based.

What is the process for Filmfare? I know based on the entries we are casting as votes now the top 5-6 will be chosen as nominees? Do people vote again or the Filmfare jury decides from the final 5-6 or 50-50? Any idea how that works?

If its 100% democracy right through then SRK Deepika will be sweeping awards this year.

From Filmfare about the process:

'Filmfare follows an exhaustive process to shortlist achievements of actors, filmmakers and technicians. All films that release in a calendar year i.e. between January 1 and December 31 qualify for the public voting process. Filmfare releases a form for the common public, across print and online platforms, where movie buffs cast their vote for their favourite films, songs and artistes in 10 categories.

The voting data is then compiled, to arrive at the final set of nominees for the popular categories such as Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male), Best Actor in a Leading Role (Female) etc.

After zeroing in on popular nominations, a voting form is sent to jury members of the Popular category. This form has the potential nominations. It also initiates the process, where the jury members rank nominees in all 10 popular categories.

Besides the popular jury, our second and very important jury is the technical and critics' jury. This is a different jury with different members from that of the popular. The critics' jury comprises renowned filmmakers, technicians and artistes. Over the years, the critics' and technical jury's involvement has helped nurture and encourage filmmakers whose films may not have met with box office success and may have gone unnoticed.

This jury votes for the Critics’ Awards i.e. Best Film, Best Actor (Male) and Best Actor (Female). These awards are a benchmark for the highest quality of cinema. This is a keenly contested category where quality is the only yardstick. The Critics’ award for Best Film is given to the director of the film. The critics' awards are usually snagged by the more critically acclaimed film that does not feature in the popular categories like Best Film.

The critics' jury is stringent in its process. For example if a movie is found to be a copy of another film and has substantial scenes duplicated, then it isn’t nominated in the Best Film category. However, if there are few scenes that bear resemblance then in such a case, it can be included. The idea of having these guidelines is to ensure the nominations are awarded in the fairest manner and to the most deserving artistes and films.

The critics' jury also debates and arrives at nominees and winners in technical categories like Best Background Score, Best Choreography, Best Cinematography etc.'

Who has? I only remember Rishi Kapoor admitting in an interview that he bought the BA award for Bobby. But not anybody else. Of course it doesn't mean it hasn't happened since. But wanted to know who you're talking about. If it's SRK, then why hasn't he bought one since My Name is Khan? I think he has enough money.

I think Nayanthara is already upset because there was lots of media speculation and news that she was angry at Atlee for how he cut her role in Jawan.

SRK also had to step in and say this to explain why her role was not as large as it maybe should have been.

I'm also surprised that Deepika didn't get a nomination for Gehraaiyaan. Was it because it was OTT?

What I'm wondering is what happens if Deepika gets votes from audiences for both Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress for Jawan in equal numbers. Will Filmfare have to pick which category they think she's a better fit for or will they go for whichever one got more votes by audiences.

Exactly, this is the same argument his haters are using about how the numbers for Pathaan and Jawan are made up and bought by SRK. If that's so, then why didn't he do the exact same thing for Dunki?
