Hema Malini may have been known all over India but she was never really popular in South India. Same with Madhuri Dixit. Madhuri didn't really have anything more to offer than her Southern counter parts.
Rajnikant is popular all across the country. Even in north he is popular with small town people because of the roles he played.
Kamal Hasan is a well known talent all across India. The movies he did in Hindi did make him an all India star
Chiranjeevi is one of the most talented actors and entertainers in the country but unfortunately he missed the bus
Mohanlal and his talent is universally acknowledged but he cannot pull people in with his presence alone outside of Kerala.
Most of the Hindi film actors though known across the country they do not hold sway over the audience in south. Popularity in Hindi belt should not be acknowledged as pan Indian success.
Only Sridevi Amitabh Bachchan and to an extent Rajnikant can be termed as Pan Indian stars.
Just imagine this craze popularity. Girls dying after seeing him in black..
