i've not seen either Gadar. but i definitely think Nostalgia was a big factor. the first one was a massive blockbuster, the sequel was always going to open big, i didn't think it would be as big as it has become however. so props tpo the Gadar team and Sunny especially.

Gadar pulled crowds again upon re-release because it's a genuinely good love story that touched the masses including the actual partition survivors with its balanced take. Slogans in the second half couldn't be avoided given the heated atmosphere following partition and communal riots. Even then, the hero didn't humiliate any religious sect or country.

I cannot find the video, but Suhel Seth, if I recall correct, had raised the same issue, about the quality and all and how it was a mass film, pretty much similar issues some people are raising about G2 now. what I said is gist of how Anil Sharma responded to Suhel Seth whose star was on rise at that time on different news shows.
I was wondering why this great actress doesn't have any work after the superhit success of Gadar 2. She has faded away again. I am so confused....
