To be honest, I only got this impression because of what members wrote here as I haven't watched the movie (it's a bit difficult in my region in Germany and it's not really 'my genre' to drive for some hours to watch it). 😳

Sunny Deol is the main protagonist. That's precisely why the sequel is even working and the director isn't being garlanded with shoes. He just goes missing for 30 minutes in the first half which is dedicated to that terrible love story but it's being treated like an interval by the viewers.Originally posted by: Clochette
I disagree... Sharma didn't "adapt", he profited from Sunny being BJP and Gadar still being in peoples's mind as an extraordinary success-movie. He still had the cast at hand , especially with his son as a child artist in the 2001 movie and now ready to launch him as an adult actor...Sunny still was physically fit enough and Ameesha there, too...so, with the needed financial support he made a so-so movie putting it in a time 20 years later (late 70ies). But the main protagonists weren't Sunny and Ameesha anymore, it was his son and Simrat.
The producers - I'm sure of that - betted on the nostalgia-factor and the organic sequel...and the audience proved them right.
However, Ameesha being sidelined is very much true.
Thanks for letting me know...I got the impression that the main focus had been put on Tara's son...
@bold: that’s the rumor people tried spread before the movie release which I thought got debunked after the movie released . Thank God the movie now is above all this silliness of negative reviews and rumors but it’s still not nice you know to spread such a vile and false rumor that too without even watching the movie.Originally posted by: Clochette

The movie is not late 70s.
And what the heck had BJP got to do with it? Way to dilute the achievement of someone attributing it as some favor handed down to him. You are talking about Anil Sharma but slyly taking a dig at Sunny.

In 2 decades a man making honest movies turned into n opportunist coz political climate of the country changed?
Let me break it to people that in 2001 Kargil war was fresh in people's mind and it was BJP govt at the centre.
So if u want u can bash Gadar1 too instead of calling it n honest movie.
Gadar1 is a timeless classic.

Hope you will like it. Please do let us know how it went.
. Yes absolutely. No two ways about it .

You are wrong in your assumptions relative to me...I've no negative thought in my mind concerning Gadar2, so don't attribute negative thinking to me...
If I'm mistaken because of what I had read here in the thread, I apologize. However, the fact that Sunny has no differences with the ruling party , made it easier to get the financial support...it is nothing negative as such! I don't see Gadar2 as a propaganda movie (if you think that about me, it's in your mind, not in mine).

Singing a song of #Gadar2 in his own film while clashing with the same needs big heart & guts.. Then celebrating the success of both the films testifies the fact that #AkshayKumar is one of the most secure actor we have in the industry.. #OMG2

One thing it does prove is
A HAHK, KKHH or DDLJ sequel would massacre the box office. Nostalgia is real.
