The roaring success of Dhurandhar: The Revenge has taken an unexpected turn. While the film continues to dominate theatres and rake in staggering numbers, it has now found itself at the centre of a growing controversy. A complaint has reportedly been filed against the makers over a scene that many believe crosses the line between storytelling and religious sensitivity.

A Scene That Sparked Outrage

The issue revolves around a moment featuring R. Madhavan and Ranveer Singh. In the sequence, Madhavan’s character Ajay Sanyal recites a revered Gurbani verse to inspire Ranveer’s character, Jaskirat Singh Rangi, to accept a high-stakes mission.

The dialogue includes the line, “Soora so pehchaniye jo lade deen ke het…”, a powerful verse associated with the teachings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. However, what has triggered backlash is the context in which it is delivered. The character is shown smoking a cigarette while reciting the sacred words, which many viewers have found disrespectful.

Political Reaction and Legal Angle

Shiv Sena leader Gurjyot Singh Keer has strongly objected to the portrayal and has called for accountability. Taking to social media, he expressed that the use of Gurbani in such a setting is “deeply hurtful” and undermines its spiritual significance.

A formal complaint has now been filed, and reports suggest that legal provisions related to hurting religious sentiments could come into play. The controversy has reignited the long-standing debate around creative freedom in cinema and the responsibility filmmakers carry when dealing with religious content.

So far, director Aditya Dhar and the production team have not released an official statement addressing the matter.

Record-Breaking Success Continues

Despite the backlash, Dhurandhar: The Revenge shows no signs of slowing down at the box office. The film has had a thunderous opening, riding on festive momentum and strong audience turnout. Within just four days, including previews, it has already raced close to the Rs 700 crore mark worldwide.

Trade analysts believe the film is well on track to enter the Rs 1000 crore club within its first week, a feat only a handful of films have achieved.
