Assalamu Alaikum 🤗
The joyous occasion of Eid is here and as Muslims prepare to celebrate this beautiful festival today and tomorrow; the CC team is back to wish you all a happy eid and share some interesting facts about this Eid.

Eid ul Adha is one of the biggest festivals celebrated by Muslims across the globe. It also is known as Bakra Eid and means the "festival of sacrifice". It is celebrated on the 10th of Dhul Hajj, the final month of the Islamic Lunar Calendar. It is an occasion which recalls and honours the story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS). Prophet Ibrahim had a recurring dream of slaughtering his son, Ismael. He told his son about these dreams and explained Allah wanted him to make this sacrifice. Ismael agreed and told his father to fulfil Allah's command. On the way, the Shaytan (Devil) tried to deter Prophet Ibrahim from completing this command but determined to please his Creator, Prophet Ibrahim ignored him and instead threw pebbles/stones at him (an act repeated by many Muslims when performing Hajj).
Allah was pleased to witness Prophet Ibrahim's strong devotion and sent Angel Jibrael with a cattle to inform Prophet Ibrahim that he had passed his test and would not need to sacrifice his son, Ismael. Instead he should sacrifice the cattle. Some scholars say, Prophet Ibrahim had blindfolded himself while slaughtering his son and when he removed the blindfold he saw a cattle instead of his son. Ismael stood beside him unharmed. While fearing he may have disobeyed his Creator, he heard a voice informing him he had passed his test and Allah was pleased with him. A miracle had happened by the will of Allah and a cattle had been sacrificed instead of Ismael.
Since then, Muslims around the globe that can afford to purchase and sacrifice a cattle do so every year on this day. The sacrifice is then distributed in three equal parts - one portion feeds the family, the other for the relatives, and the final portion is given to the poor and needy so that they can prepare a feast and celebrate Eid.

Similar to Eid-ul-Fitr, Muslims attend the mosque in the morning and offer the Eid namaz before proceeding to arrange and perform the sacrifice (Qurbani sometimes is not always done on the first day of Eid, some will do it on the second and third day). Muslims typically will fast in the morning and open their fast after they've attended the mosque. They also wear new clothes and prepare delicious food. Relatives and families gather to enjoy the meal and share the joy and love of this occasion. Women and young girls will gather together to apply henna on one another to add to the celebrations.
