Sonali was otherwise a nobody in 90s and not in any countdown or ranking. She was considered a non actor.

She did B grade films earlier with Akki and Sunil or Ajay.

Even Shilpa was considered a better looker, hottie and Raveena was also more popular than her.

I am surprised people include Sonali in same list as Juhi and Kajol who were leagues ahead of Sonali in every way.

I agree. even Pooja Bhatt, Shilpa shetty and hell even twinkle Khanna were ahead of her in popularity or some one a little worthy to be mentioned as a 90s actress..

(though she was so beautiful... and that's about it)

ps: Raveena should not be named with Shilpa, as she was in top 5 of 90s actress after Madhuri, Juhi, kajol and karishma

90s technically belonged to Sridevi, Madhuri, Divya, Juhi in early 90s. Kajol, Karisma, Shilpa, Raveena later and Tabu and Manisha in serious or artsy roles. With a dash of Sheeba, Namrata Shirodkar, Somy Ali, Ash, Sush, Shilpa Shirodkar and other starlets making appearance here or there and newbies like Rani and Preity debuting later.

Madhuri, Juhi may have debuted in 80s but peaked in 90s. Madhuri technically owned that decade with hit songs and ATBB like HAHK and hits like Beta, Khalnayak, DTPH and offbeat films like Mrityudand.

Kajol peaked from DDLJ and was on top in 1998 with KKHH, PKTDK, PTHHT, Dushman - all hits and had her in author backed roles. She could have done more if she did not marry so soon and slowly reduce her work.

Karishma too could have done more if she did not get engaged to Abhishek and it did not break. She was on top with Biwi no.1, HSSH, HMJ type hits in 1999.

She slowly reduced self to serious films like Shakti, Baaz and lost favour in commercial roles, making way for Bebo.

Sonali seems to be popular purely due to her greater online activity now, reality shows, sympathy she gets as cancer survivor, her online book club, ads and lingering popularity of re runs of old films like Sarfarosh, HSSH, Duplicate and maybe because new generation is superficial and likes body more than acting, hence the love for this leggy lass with long hair aka Sonali or the love for tall and youthful looking Shilpa, who were literally B grade actors in front of Juhi, MD, Lolo, Sri, Kajol.

Sonali or Shilpa popular now or people overrating their stardom makes me realise importance of PR and maintaining yourself well. Juhi looks aged so people do not realise what a big star she was in 90s.

All 3 of them !! They were simply stunning and captivating in 90's, early 2000's movies. ❤️

Shilpa was definitely a flop actress and it was the other side things she did that gained her popularity.

When I did the last poll, I wasn’t surprised that people found Sonali good looking, but I was shocked to learn that she was really quite up there. I guess everyone likes everyone for different reasons, some for looks and some for the profession and how good they are at that profession.

I am truly surprised that how an why Raveena was liked, even back then. It’s now that I am learning that she was rated higher than I actually thought she would be. She didn’t know how to act – nor looked good. Though she does look much better now. She is aging gracefully and still has that sense of style.

She was one of the most gorgeous actresses ever, even in her debut movie.. she was very stylized ravishing and electrifying. as far as acting is concerned very few in 90s were good actresses at start of their careers be it Raveena, Karishma, Shilpa etc..

as far as popularity is concerned, Raveena was hailed as number 2 by all trade pandits and film magazines in 1994 after a string of hits, and she was just behind Madhuri who became number one after hum aapke hain kaun.

Raveena sabotaged her own chances of becoming number one after rejecting many exciting films which includes Darr and Rangeela as well, just due to been engaged with Akshay who wanted her to leave the industry at her nearing peak days.. those 2 years sitting at home not signing new films costed her alot of damage... she restarted again in 1997, got moderate success as well, but nothing of that sort which was expected from her after 1994 when she decided to leave the industry due to getting married with Akshay, only to get ditched by him, even after an official engagement.

There are millons of people dying because of cancer..many don't even have money to get proper treatments..we never care about them coz they are not known..and here bendre had the financial support of her well to do husband who took her to US overnight..she should thank her stars that she survived and had all the backing several others dying don't have..they fight equally strong..some even die while fighting..never do we put them on this pedestal..all this cancer thing has my blood boil coz stop putting her on a pedestal..she had milked it all through but take a look around you and you will know how many lives are lost through this horrible disease and not one person did not fight to get his or her life back..they all fought..till their last breath..they just were not known and didn't have luck / financial backing on their side like bendre..if anything her cancer story reeks of priviledge which she throws around so casually..

well this is really harsh and inappropriate to say that someone is MILKING her deadly desease like cancer for publicity & attention.

I am sure Sonali is not that toxic, manipulative and crazy to do such a thing, speaking about a deadly illness is not equalent to milking it for getting on purpose sympathy.

Moreover this is not Sonali's fault that she is previlidged and others are not.
