There are signs that could be understood without learning the sign languages (which - unfortunately - also differ in various countries).

If mankind would be more practical in terms of communication with people speaking a language one doesn't know (and English isn't an option), then they would have invented ONE sign language - not only for ALL the deaf/mute people in the world but for EVERYBODY to learn...quasi THE world language.

That would require a borderless world with maximum differences resolved. We are talking about at least 1000 years from now (conservative estimate ) , that too in case we don't get nuked, to arrive at the world language - sign or otherwise. Too much movement, mixing etc. will have to happen.😊

A world-sign language could respect every national/regional language and dialect because there are only meanings, not words. There are thousands of equal meanings that only are differently worded.

One can do the signs and speak the own words (if one isn't mute) and the other can comprehend what you mean through the signs. That would took the effort of three generations maximum and the will of every school in the world to teach it.
