It's a way to not sign the film , probably didn't like the script.

Usually actor demand high money for scripts they don't like to not sour the relationship

As per an IF article he has issued an apology for not being able to do the film and said he was unhappy with script.

Its okay Akshay, the audience will survive not seeing you. Also, I hardly think there is any buzz about this film anymore.
