How authentic is the portrayal apart from Madhuri going out of character?

What are your thoughts on this scene?

They kinda don't have to. That audience on the screen are like spokespersons for movie-going bhakts.

Madhuri was brilliant in that film.

Everything Madhuri said is true, and the reason why even as a child I couldn’t warm to up Ram and his ideology. Probably the biggest thing I disagree with in Hindu religion. And before anyone attacks me, I am Hindu myself but I also have mind of my own.

This was great scene and authentic. I am glad it released in 2001. Had it released today pseudo boycott gang would have talked shit.

I am surprised what progressive films we had in 2001 despite right wing NDA regime under Atal ruling the country. Even NDA under ABV was not as regressive as it is under Modi.

Original ramayan ends with yuddha kand i.e the war between Ram and Ravan and reunion of Ram n Sita. There is no uttara khand .

Uttara khand which shows Sita's agni pariksha and exile and all was later added by scholars , popularized by Tulsidas's version of Ramayana , which should have been ignored as a whole. it is just an extrapolation to soothe the society..

so if one is going to judge Ram's character based on some extrapolated chapters that is on you I guess.

Sita is blaming Lakshman for her plight because he cut Surpankha's nose due to which Ravan kidnapped her.

But didn't Lakshman cut Surpankha's nose because she was about to attack Sita and he saved her?

Madhuri said Raavan also showed his manhood on a woman and not Lakshman.

This implies that she's putting blame on Lakshman for showing his manhood by cutting Surpnakha's nose, thus making her a victim and him the perpetrator.
