Hello folks! I was shifting, so had no time to write a detailed post. Nevertheless I have been following all discussions on this thread, which have been a joy to read❤️
The episode was unexpected to say the least. I didn’t expect for Sadia to come back and then die. I would like to begin by saying that Basit paying heed to Ayesha’s advice and seeking out his mother is a major positive of the episode. It shows that he cares about her opinion and has started listening to her. But the next scene was a shocker, I didn’t expect Sadia to die while reading his letter. But I would definitely commend the director on the subtlety of the scene. Nowhere does he go OTT.
Basit’s emotions in the entire episode were palpable- be it his grief or regret. Feroze has done an excellent job. Ushna’s makeup at the funeral and even afterwards was totally on point. It showed that she was grief struck and exhausted.
Coming to the most discussed issue of whether Ayesha was right to call out Basit in front of everyone- I personally was quite taken aback with her lashing out at him. Not for the reason that I believe part of what she said was wrong but because she should not have done this so publically and so soon when Basit’s emotional pain was evident. But then I gave it a few days and realised that Sadia was the mother figure Ayesha may have always craved. Sadia gave Ayesha love, acceptance, encouragement especially at a time when she’s entered a new home to live with a partner who can be callous and cold. I think she wanted both Sadia and Basit to reconcile not for Basit but for Sadia. She has witnessed Sadia’s pain and need for her son. But she had never truly knew what Basit went through to turn so bitter with his mother. I think you need to go through some trauma or pain to appreciate another person’s pain or journey of healing. Although I expected Ayesha to be slightly more mature and patient, I felt that perhaps the writer wanted to highlight Ayesha’s imperfections or the fact that she’s as new to relationships as Basit and this story is not one where the wife is a self sacrificing character and the husband does no work on the relationship and simply exists. They both need to work hard to understand each other.
That being said, this does not mean that Ayesha doesn’t care about Basit. She does, despite being angry with him she asks him for food, worries when he doesn’t open the door and even calls his friend knowing that only he can convince Basit to open it. Ayesha’s relief in the scene was heart touching. I loved Basit opening up to Ayesha about his grief. I loved how Ayesha asked for an apology as soon as she realised that she crossed the line. What I like about this show is that Basit didn’t yell at Ayesha or tell her to mind her own business, he somewhat understood Ayesha’s attachment to his mother and was even trying to justify his previous actions to convince Ayesha that he’s not heartless. Basit’s comment to Fahad that only he understands him was a subtle dig at Ayesha. It shows that Basit cares about Ayesha’s opinion of him. I feel that internally Basit is still that child who craves love and acceptance (especially from the female familial figures).
Coming to my favourite scene of the whole episode- the kitchen scene. I loved how Basit looked curious or was it unhappy about what Fahad was doing in the kitchen with Ayesha. That scene was adorable, especially with Basit and Ayesha smiling when Fahad playfully calls out Basit for not helping Ayesha in the kitchen. What I loved about the scene is the progression in Ayesha and Basit’s relationship. We have seen how Basit used to tell Ayesha that it’s not your job every time she tried to do something remotely domestic. Here we see Ayesha truly looking at home and cooking in the kitchen (I think the credit goes to Sadia for helping in the transition). We also witness how Basit walks into the kitchen and comfortably stands next to Ayesha without pointing out that this is not her job. I think he’s slowly accepting her in the house.
Fahad and Bano are definitely happening and Fahad will be the most adorable partner ever. I love Bano’s professionalism. I’m also curious about the progression in Basit and Bano’s relationship. In fact I would love to see Basit showing brotherly protectiveness towards Bano.
There is something so attractive about Basit as a boss, he has a certain charisma🥰
Can we please discuss the kitchen scene a little more? What was the look that Basit had while talking on the phone and looking at Fahad and Ayesha working together. Something tells me that the old Basit would have never been curious or even entered the kitchen, instead he would’ve continued to take the business call, remember the dinner? But this Basit has changed. Was he slightly insecure or simply curious? What do you guys think?
