I can now say I am finally done with this stupid show.
After posing as a broad minded show but only showing regressive things in the name of Sanskaar, the makers today crossed all limits by showing the custom of gadthuthi, in which instead of colostrum, a newborn is fed honey or a syrup of jaggery, ghee and water, before anything else.
As a child I remember Prasar Bharti ads on Doordarshan and Radio trying to educate orthodox and illiterate villagers on the importance of colostrum (the first Yellow milk that the mother produces) to be the first thing the baby consumes after birth, and that the baby should not drink anything until it's six months old, not even water.
Infact I had even volunteered in my native village's Anganwadi to educate women about postpartum best practices.
As a person who has awareness about how dangerous can any unwanted food be for a few hour old non-vaccinated baby, I feel truly ashamed of seeing this on a show that claims to be about modernization. It was cringeworthy to see the characters execute, cheer and justify this custom. Why why why??
Just to show how Anupamaa has the most importance in the baby's life? Or to appease the regressive audience who is still watching the show after portrayal of so many ridiculous situations??
How could characters like so many educated people allow this to happen?
If RG needed a scene to establish her importance on the show, she could have had a scene where she is giving emotional support to Kinjal who is struggling with breastfeeding, but by doing this she has shown extreme lack of social responsibility. I sincerely hope this is called out aggressively on social media by the actual EDUCATED viewers.
If you need to know the timestamp, on Hotstar video the scene is in the last 3 mins of the episode.
Any members here who support this dangerous custom can report my post or my account, it's your will, but I request that please refrain from any replies trying to justify this. My head is still not over from the shock of the cringe attack the show gave me today.
