Sanjay Leela Bhansali's reputation as a perfectionist is known across the entertainment industry. Whether it is cinema or television, the celebrated filmmaker is admired for his eye for detail and his ability to bring out the best in his actors. While many stories about his strict work ethic have become part of industry folklore, actors who have worked with him often describe the experience as transformative.

Television actress Shiny Doshi, who made her acting debut with Saraswatichandra, recently opened up about her experience of working under Bhansali's creative vision. In a conversation with Film Window, Shiny was asked about the common belief that while Bhansali can be demanding and short tempered, actors who completely trust his vision often end up benefiting immensely from the experience.

Agreeing with the observation, Shiny praised Bhansali's understanding of his craft and his commitment to perfection. "I agree to this. I agree he is the man of perfection. He is somebody who likes..."

The actress then recalled an incident from her look test for Saraswatichandra, which remains one of her strongest memories from the show. According to Shiny, Bhansali paid attention to every little detail, including her hairstyle.

"So mera jab look test chal raha tha tab mujhe bahut achhe se yaad hai ki meri hair didi ne mere baal thoda packing wacking daal ke woh typically aise chipka chipka ke jo baal banate the waise baal bana diye the. And then he just came down and he said ki isko ye nikalo, ye nikalo, woh nikalo."

She explained that Bhansali personally suggested changes to her appearance and completely altered the look that had initially been planned for her character.

"And then what he made me and how I looked as Kusum in the show was... I mean mere liye khud ko screen pe pehli baar dekhna bhi was like, you know, jab aap khud ko dekhte ho tab aapko pata chalta hai ki nahi, mujhe ye cheezein change karni chahiye apne baare mein ya mere looks aise hone chahiye ya mujhe apni acting pe aise kaam karna chahiye."

For Shiny, the experience was an important learning moment early in her career. Watching herself on screen helped her understand how crucial presentation and characterization are for an actor. It also reinforced her belief in trusting experienced creators who understand exactly what works for a particular role.

Speaking further about Bhansali's personality, Shiny said she believes that people who are exceptionally good at their work naturally come across as authoritative.

"So I feel yes. I think a man who knows his job really well will only be so commanding in life."

However, she was quick to clarify that she never personally witnessed Bhansali behaving harshly or being unnecessarily strict with actors on the set.

"But humare set pe mujhe nahi yaad hoga kabhi bhi unhone aise behave kiya ho strict ya somebody. But yes, he was there. Not that he directed the entire show but initially yes, he was a part of it."

When asked if she had ever been scolded by Bhansali, Shiny laughed off the suggestion and revealed that the person she feared more was actually the show's director.

"Nahi, mujhe jo mere actual main director the show mein unse daant padti thi."

Shiny's recollections paint a picture of a filmmaker who demands excellence but also possesses a remarkable understanding of visual storytelling and character creation. For an actress making her debut, working on a project associated with Sanjay Leela Bhansali proved to be a valuable learning experience. More than a decade later, the memories of those early days continue to stay with her, serving as a reminder of the lessons she learned while stepping into the world of acting through Saraswatichandra.
