I watched Cake too cuz it was on Netflix at the time. Not sure if it's still there but I'll watch anything that has a bit of glamor to balance out the gloomy theme. Sanam's character was the saving grace for me.

Bol and Khuda Ke Liye, on the other hand, were totally unwatchable to me even though they're thought provoking with rave reviews by so many. I found them too depressing.... but not being able to appreciate those movies could just be a me problem. 😆

I have noticed this trend. I can say as a Sikh, you say anything about any Guru, and death is called for from staunch believers. Also observed it within Muslims. However, the disrespect to Krishna, Ram, etc. seems to be okay. Either all are up for grabs, or none. I would say none because we should just be respectful. We should have the ability to question ideologies and beliefs, but not blatantly disrespect like this. If calls for banning her movie is called for, it's justifiable. For me, you can't pick and choose. That is why I just don't engage and ask that it be respectful.

I'm not well versed in what happened with Nupur - I just know she said something about the Prophet. Again, it should either be up for grabs or not at all. Ideally, we should all have the freedom to question any belief or tradition - regardless of religion. A religion should not dictate which one you can and cannot question. So death threats and what not - no. I will believe that no God will call for death. God's given us free will - use it. And freedom of speech should be done responsibly.

I believe both sides - liberals and conservatives can be hypocrites. Everyone does what fits their agenda. However, if here liberals are okay with this then they should be called out.

Nupur uproar details:

There was a debate on a TV channel. One Maulana abused Shiva and Shivling and so Nupur replied that don’t talk like that. If I talk about Prophet the same way, would you like it.

Zubair (an online self proclaimed fact checker), ran the edited video of Nupur comments only And tagged Middle eastern and all prominent people to go behind her. Outrage all over and riots and violence in lot of Indian cities asking to behead Nupur.
Couple days later a tailor in Udaipur, Rajasthan is beheaded for putting a status of supporting Nupur. Another similar case in Maharashtra, a chemist was murdered for showing support to Nupur. (The part I and lot of people have a huge problem with is What the eff with beheading for having an opinion.)

In India, FOE is highly abused and misused for propaganda purposes only.

Your observation is correct. Abusing Hindu God and Goddesses have always been accepted. MF Husain painted nude pics of Hindu Goddesses and he was fine. Hindus will go as far as filing an FIR.

Liberals and communists are all alike. Liberals though act all superior and think they are some intellectuals which they so not are. They claim to be liberals then may be act like one. 🤷‍♀️
