Holi is one of the best enjoyable festivals in India. It gives more pleasure when enjoying with friends and family. Never ever ban Holi.

1) Holi is fine as it is, it doesn't need to be dry. Emissions from vehicles, Industrial waste, livestock contribute the bulk of the greenhouse gases. Holi on 1 day will hardly make a difference to the global carbon footprint. Would be surprised if its 0.0000001% even.

2) People are moving away from that. Symbolic sacrifices are becoming the norm.

3) Its not a food chain or natural when you're raising these animals in dreadful conditions in pens/confinements, feeding them their own shit, genetically manipulating them for more meat/produce. These animals go through absolute hell & pain.

1. It's not just about environments. It's about our own health too. The synthetically produced colours have harmful chemicals like Copper sulphate, aluminium bromide, Mercury etc which are carcinogenic, can cause severe skin problems. Herbal colours ARE safer. Dry holi, because it's easier to wash down the dry colours than the wet ones.

+

One wrong is already happening isn't a valid excuse to do some more wrongs. There are efforts being made to control / filter vehicle emissions & industrial wastes. We are trying to shift from Petrol Diesel to CNG for a reason.

2. I don't know about the statistics in other states, but in Bengal it's still very much prevalent. Durga Puja & Kali Puja aren't complete without Bali/sacrifice. Even Jagaddhatri puja too.

3. It is still food chain because humans are above herbivorous animals in biomass pyramid. Humans are omnivores. Human body needs animal sourced protein. If not fish/meat directly, at least dairy products like Curd & Paneer. It's sad how the animal farming is done, care & modifications needed there for sure, but guilt tripping people for eating meat/dairy isn't the right thing to do.

In general yes, plant-based diets are usually more sustainable and better for the environment. But plant-based diets are not always accessible or affordable for many. Meat gives many people more calories and nutrients per part in weight as well as per part money spent in comparison to vegetables. Vegetarianism and veganism today is indeed the diet of the privileged.

Farming and animal husbandry can be both sustainable and unsustainable depending on the practices.

Commercial meat grown on a large scale for mass consumption can be unsustainable. But there are sustainable animal husbandry methods. Once upon a time, small farms that raised crops and livestock were the norm. The manure from livestock helped fertilize the fields. The byproducts and inedible parts of plans provided feed for the animals. It was all a closed-loop sustainable environment without the need for chemical fertilizers or processed feed. Nose-to-tail consumption where every part of the animal is used also can add to sustainability.

Just because your food is vegetarian does not mean it is clean and environmentally friendly. Depending on where you live and what you eat, some vegetables can have a worse carbon footprint than meat. Avocado and almond farms have been notorious for California's increasing droughts. Chemicals used in fertilizers and insecticide leach into the soil - contaminating groundwater and entire hydrological eco-systems. Fertilizer runoff causes algae blooms that increase temperatures, kill aquatic life, and contribute to global warming.

Food ecosystems are complex it is unfair to hold individuals to be completely well informed or always make the right choices. But I think it is fair to expect that those with the ability and means to do give more thought to where their food comes from.

How long have you been vegan for?

If your body craves meat and you like the taste of it, you would at least be honest and admit as much instead of performing mental gymnastics to justify the act of eating meat because no rational mind can counter why it is not immoral and unethical to slaughter, kill and consume animals.

The 'top of the food chain" is a fallacious argument because we are omnivores with a trophic level around 2.2, which is right next to pigs.

History will probably register who is right and who wrong when it comes to killing and eating animals thus violating their rights and, even if it takes a few hundred more years, the smart bet is on those who don't eat meat.

On the topic of Holi, I oppose all festivals that invade personal space. Like some guy said: "your right (to swing your arms) ends where my nose begins!"

Hell yes. The most notorious festival ever. Gives free pass to harass and violate anyone( known or unknown) and then come with the lame excuse " bura na mano holi hai"..i hate this festival, it's very dirty.lol
