Let's talk about Chacha Chaudhary and Raj Comics heroes.

I never read much comics in my childhood except Chacha Chaudhary to some extent. I'm familiar with Raj Comics heroes and read some editions.

Chacha Chaudhary was a famous comics character in my childhood and kids knew him very well. Raj Comics had three main popular heroes Nagraj, Super Commando Dhruva and Doga.

I never heard of Archies in my life until Hollywood and now Bollywood started making life action adaptions. My knowledge is not full-proof but still I'm trying to start a discussion.

When Zoya came with Archies, many people complained on SM about Bollywood not making live action adaptations on Indian comic book superheroes from Raj Comics. Fans of Raj Comics have been asking for a Doga movie since ages, and that wish was about to come true with Anurag Kashyap attempting to make it.

But Bombay Velvet being a disaster shelved the Doga movie since the message was loud and clear with BV that Kashyap is in no position to make a big budget film. Archies would never resonate with the mass audience and hence the film is being released on Netflix.

But can Chacha Chaudhary and Nagraj work on big screen? I can see Chacha Chaudhary work better as a cartoon or live action series because the character is not larger than life. His stories work better as episodics since it revolve around his wits to solve day to day problems.

Nagraj is the most popular superhero from Raj Comics but I don't think he's cut out for live action. He's a dude whose superpower is to throw snakes at his opponents which always looked creepy to me. He would look completely goofy in that green suit and would need serious changes to work on screen. But I think that's just me because Nagraj is the most popular Indian comic book superhero and even Naagin is a TRP topper show on television no matter how ridiculous it is. His stories though would be interesting to watch since they're related to mythology but still need heavy VFX which Bollywood might not be able to invest on.

A movie on Super Commando Dhruv could be an easy launchpad for a star-kid since the character is supposed to be young and in his teens but I think he would be a bit lame on big screen since he doesn't really have any superpowers. His skills mainly are that he's athletic, a great detective and he could talk to animals. His movie would need to have a highly compelling story to make it work with the audience.

Doga is the easiest character to make a movie from all superheroes from Raj Comics because he's basically Indian Punisher (A vigilante punishing criminals by killing them). His stories are dark, gritty, and have a real life touch. It would have enough masala to appeal to the masses. His powers are not OTT or ridiculous either and don't need to be high on VFX.

Although the two biggest reasons Bollywood has never attempted to make a live action adaptation of Raj Comics is because they most likely have never read those comics ever in their life as they were mostly famous in tier-2 and 3 cities.

But another reason is why would they when Bollywood audience has no problem in accepting masala movies with heroes who can do superhuman stuff without any explanation? Why go for extra effort to explain their superpowers? Bollywood's answer to the MCU was Rohit Shetty Cop universe where regular cops are actually Gods who can fly and do all the OTT stuff.

Hence there is no attempt to further the superhero genre in Bollywood or India because they most of the time require heavy VFX and it's not worth time or money to brainstorm writing such stories when audience is fine with regular human doing superhero stuff.

I agree with the op. The post is well written 👍🏼

However there WAS a serial on chacha chaudhary on some tv channel. I watched a few episodes but didn't like it much. I don't think a movie on him will work. A well made serial can!

Yes I've also heard and watched a few episodes of that show. I think there's an Indian cartoon on Chacha Chaudhary as well. Don't know how it is.
