I barely read any Raj Comics. I was a Tinkle kid and enjoyed Suppandi, Shikari Shambhu, Kaalia the Crow, Tantri the Mantri, Hodja, etc. Even in western comics, I stuck to Tintin, Asterix, and Archies. I've not read many superhero comics.
But I will watch a well-made superhero animation or live-action movie or series. I agree, that it would be cool to have a narrative created by South Asians and embedded in the culture. Baahubali was amazing because it gave us a LOTR like fantasy fiction but rooted in our culture.
It is too bad that a majority of the Indian superhero movies have been crap and cheesy. Bhavesh Joshi and Mard ko Dard were great but didn't get traction at the box office. Perhaps, this is where streaming can help.
Also to add, the original doesn't always have to be necessarily desi. Vishal Bharadwaj remade Shakespeare but Maqbool, Omkara, and Haider were so quintessentially Indian. Audiences embraced those movies even though many Indians don't really read Shakespeare (does anyone in the world beyond Theatre or Literature majors?)
You can potentially adapt any novel or comic to suit Indian audiences including Archies. The reason the Archies adaptation is causing knee-jerk reactions is the strong anti-nepotism sentiment plus Zoya has set it in a very niche time period and subculture that feels alien to most Indians.
Even retro Archies set in well-known metros like Bombay, Delhi, Calcutta, etc. would have appealed to people more because even though urban India is a niche audience most people are familiar with urban India.
