You will clearly understand if a movie is made to make it flop,

One point i can tell, they take a struggling heroine in the name of giving her break but all know the movie going to be a flop

Edit: i can give example from old times, remember movie Kedi - Nagarjuna movie. My friend told me that this movie was made to flop so that Nagarjuna can escape income tax. That year i came to know about this scam in industry. That movie was such a faltu movie.

I read there are 2 types of tax scams in movie making.

1. as you said showing high budget for tax invasion.

2. make a low budget shi**y movie and convert black money into white by showing high profits (fake profits)😆

It's a misconception that all south Indians are dark.

In tamil n telugu many North Indian actresses act.But in malayalam most of the actresses are malayalees n they dub in their own voice also.

on a risk-adjusted basis, making small moolah is not worth it, given that the money is tied up for a long time. So for all practical purpose, they were duds. Face it. 😉

by the way, why do so many south movies have models from north and light-skinned punjabi actresses? Don't we find dusky very appealing? Indigenous local stuff doesn't work? Anyway, I suppose there's only so much of that corny heavy melodramatic stuff that can sell in any year, so the flops.😆

Many malayali actresses are doing tamil telugu movies along with North indians. Malayalees are same like telugites. But they are taken in tamil telugu n kannada. So it's not like only North Indian actresses are taken.

I agree that talent has very little correlation with looks/ light-skin and i can surmise there are many great actresses from the south. Still, there does seem to be a lot of tamanna bhatias and other light-skinned actresses from the north over the years.... and that too in big-budget movies. They are clearly there because that's who the audience seems to prefer for those movies.

as for jayaprada and sridevi, werent they lighter skinned too? Sarika (who was married to kamal hasan), asin.... they are probably all a bit on the lighter side too.

What is the point of this article? Not every movie is a megablockbuster. Every industry has its share of flops and failures.

The Bollywood is dead discourse was silly. But the larger point that got lost is that regional cinema is no longer confined to regional audiences. They have the ability to reach a pan-Indian market.

This isn't the first time South Indian cinema has reached a pan-Indian market though. Mani Ratnam's Roja and Bombay were nationwide hits.

Sai Pallavi, Nimisha Sijayan, Reema Kallingal, Shobana, Keerthi Suresh, Anna Ben, Parvathy, Manju Warrier, Grace Antony, Surabhi Lakshmi.

All local and all (maybe except Keerthi) dusky. All mega talented.

Yeah, for flowerpot roles, filmmakers go to other types.
