I'll disagree a little here..
I think a lot of complex stories, at least on indian television is just shittyy characters being elevated by good acting... And once you get a certain distance from the show, it does seem pretty black and white...
Like i remember during silsila there were huge debates but now if i had to sum it up i would say kunal was nothing but a weak man looking for an easy escape
Same with imlie 1.0. I actually watched the whole aryan portion first and then went back to watch the earlier episodes... So there is a sense of detachment and distance... And all i can see is emotional (and sometimes physical) abuse of a young girl who is absolutely hungry for acceptance
... Has there been a truly grey story on itv where you just can't make up your mind who to support?
itv mostly fails on writing so yes you are right...
the viewers' bias is complementary to whom they like.
let me give you and example that works for me,
i like drashti that's why i started watching silsila, but i didn't like nandini rather i sympathised with mauli, and it made me disappointed with show and i stopped watching.
but regardless of that, there can be multiple interpretation of narratives, like i know for imlie 1.0, i find the whole storyline distasteful, but i like some scenes where i find the most hated characters too bearable.
there are certainly scenes where i can relate to malini, imlie, and even adi, individually at different times in the whole 300 episode journey though i'll admit that my adi moments are too less, same my imlie moments before aryan are also too less
while malini moments after molestation are too less.
