Long run of the film is still deemed an important factor in deciding whether it is a hit or flop

Even a film dependent on WOM needs to open at a certain level to be a huge grosser. Gangubai won't have crossed 100 Crores with an opening of 2 Crores or by only releasing in 500 screens.

Pushpa is one rare case because the movie had no competition. These films are still not that big Hits compared to KNPH, HAHK or DDLJ, which also didn't open huge but trended extremely well.

Also record breaking openers don't Flop easily unless the budget is too high or the film is completely rejected, which wasn't the case pre-multiplex era.

So using Abhishek or other failed star-kids of his gen to hype Alia is just nonsensical.

Alia is a good actress, and Bollywood has every right to promote someone who makes them the RoI, nepo or otherwise.

Problem is she's being lauded as Madhuri, Vidya/Tabu/PC/Meryl Streep, Amitabh Bachchan combined when she's nowhere close to even one of those legends. That ain't about her being nepo That's just about making her out to be something she isn't. Yeah, she's gonna get trolled for that. Just like Deepika got trolled for calling herself Smita Patil.

I mean, Hrithik Roshan is a nepo kid who's mega successful. He's not promoting himself as Anthony Hopkins, Michael Jackson, and Amitabh Bachchan combined.

Err not sure if u remember the time hrithik debuted but he was promoted and positioned as the one who will dethrone khan supremacy in the early 2000s , everyone else was called jaded because they didn’t look as good or dance as good …words like genius were used …abhishek waa written off in comparison …srk was written off …he won the best actor filmfare for his first film which was unheard of…he was called indias michal Jackson, Tom cruise yada yada by Farah khan and industry folk …

He dosent promote himself now coz he dosent need to …he’s been here for 22 years
Back then , when he was new his “hype” was through the roof …even with the absence of the media and pr culture that we see today …

He said he didnt wanna make Hollywood movies. He wanted to take his cinema to there like Crouching Tiger and Life is Beautiful. Those are legit words that came from his mouth in a 2009 interview on a show called Beautiful People. So yes he has made some broad claims before. An I suppose Kites was his attempt and well . That kite didnt fly 😆

Nope…abhishek, sonam are valid examples of nepo kids who have been given multiple valuable opportunities and have repeatedly failed to capitalise on it…in comparison , people who were able to capitalise on their opportunities did some right …nothing nonsensical about that argument at all

Sonam yes...she debuted after Multiplex boom.

But Abhishek, Uday, Esha and the likes who debuted early 2000s came in single screen era. A time when PR had little to no effect in making a movie Hit or Flop. Audience judged them as they were unlike today when media has a lot of influence.

I wasn't following back then. Clearly, Bollywood insiders think very highly of themselves.😆 If social media was around, he'd have been trolled. Deservedly so.

Don’t quite think it’s exclusive to just insiders

Any success story gets hyped to no end…that’s why they say “ugte sooraj ko salaam” meaning people will salute anything that is succeeding …never mind the degree of success or whether they deserve such hyperboles in comparison

Prabhas and allu arjun got hyped as the new “pan India superstars” in the Hindi belt after one successful film each …even srk for hyped to no end in the 90s with the whole King of romance tag and as the successor to dilip Kumar and bacchan snr…

We can’t tell how much is self manufactured, how much is genuine and how much is people just overreacting / being fueled by taking out grudges against the opposition

He had a better shot at international recognition with Jodha Akbar if he was vying for Hollywood fame. He didn't have to speak English and alienate his own home base to appease Hollywood sensibilities. Kites looked like a crappy copy of a Spanish movie anyway with a bunch of stuff lifted off other movies that did well before.

I still haven't watched the movie even though he looks gorgeous in it. I think I need to add a reminder to my phone at this point cuz I forget every weekend!

SRK promoted himself. But he didn't promote himself as replacement to Dilip Kumar or Bachchan. He just declared *I'm the best.*😆 There is a difference when neither legends were active to declare himself best. AB was on a prolonged break at the time. SRK admitted to mimicking Dileep Kumar and did not claim to be better or even equal.

He still got laughed at plenty in magazines, btw.

Nowhere did he claim to be better than Mithun at dancing because it would've been ludicrous.

He didn't claim to be bigger than the biggest box office draw ever, either.

All of which Alia is claiming. Sorry, she's innocent in this. 😆 All done by fans with no instigation by her PR.
