Not actually a massive fan of either (but not a blind hater either, anyone who knows me a bit here would know that 😆) but you're so right here.

Jo bhi ho Madhuri was and is a completely self made star with plenty of genuine fan following right from the start.

From what I've seen of both I'd say that neither are really exceptional actresses or anything, and both have definitely given some dull/mediocre performances (with a couple of Alia's bordering into the straight up bad territory 😆).

But with Madhuri, she definitely had that natural talent (especially when it came to dance- there she actually was exceptional), but even with her acting she did have that *it* actor where even if you don't love her, you can see why people would.

Alia meanwhile may be good in terms of acting sometimes (like in Udta Punjab and also Gangubai Kathiawadi, if the reviews are anything to go by) but she completely lacks charisma/ it factor, and her many lacklustre performances in good roles through the last decade prove she is no natural talent, but rather works EXTREMELY hard to be as good as she is.

If anybody is still in doubt, they can just imagine young Madhuri in Alia's role in Kalank and you won't need to question who's the better actor 😊.

Err yes …so what srk did was “marketing” and what aliaas doing is “hype” ? If anything I’d say there are more examples of srk tooting his own horn than there are of aliaa doing it ….straight from thee horses mouth…not even articles / other ppl praising / conjecture to be termed as pr work…

Heck srk even started on a Pepsi ad with an ugly hrithik look alike when hr debuted, to put him

To term one as being different from the other is a bit of a stretch

Declaring himself best got him trolled plenty, and he was only declaring himself the best among his contemporaries. He never called himself good-looking, the best ever (or even current) dancer, biggest audience draw.

Alia is now better than the best EVAH in looks, dancing, acting, box office 😆. And you're saying she shouldn't be trolled.

But srk wasn’t the only one doing it all by himself …the same kjo that hypes aliaa hyped srk to no end …he was his first guest on the infamous kwk..(karans hype show) …adi, kjo and yash chopra (yash chopra was the biggest name in the 90s) literally rallied for srk in the 90s and they didn’t work with anyone else except him …Awards were given to him when there were stronger contenders in those years

…so how are we able to discern “bollywood is rallying behind aliaa for pr reasons and carrying her” but with srk , all the same people from Bollywood praised him coz they like him?

I like both aliaa and srk ..they did what they had to do to win …i don’t have much doubt that the people praising their performances were the ones genuinely impressed by their work and not co kjo paid them …least of all people like javed Akhtar, Shabana azmi who speak quite frankly and have no reason to “hype” anyone up …they don’t even hype farhan or Zoya up …

Darr was made with SRK because practically all big name stars rejected it. Around the time it became a hit, SRK's other movies also became hits. YRF wasn't helping SRK, a newcomer.

I was alive at the time and followed Bollywood, so am pretty certain of the facts.

And no one, least of all SRK, claimed he's better than the legends in looks, acting, dancing, and box office. He was already being laughed at for claiming he's the best among the contemporaries.

Alia is being promoted by entire Bollywood as the best evah in everything.😆 Not by her PR of course.😆 Simply because Bollywood really does think she's the prettiest, most talented actress and best dancer who draws the most ever people to theaters.

We are discussing about actress in two era's . The filiming method is drastically different from 80s and 90s because of the film roll camera used . There were very limited possibility to check every take and improvise it until the actor deliver best performance and choose it for the actual movie. What I heard is, the film roll was very expensive and increase in takes would result in budget increase. Also many of the directors preferred somewhat dramatic acting because of their theatre background than subtle acting . I am someone who firmly believes that if your acting is good 70 percent the credit belongs to director as they enacts or explains each expression and accept the shot when they are satisfied. Ofcourse 30% is the talent and effort of actors and how they imitate or enacts the scene but a good director will be aware of the limitation and potential of their actors and they plan the shot accordingly. I would never place Alia in the league of Maduri, can't even imagine someone calling Alia is in the same league of Sridevi. These actors had enigmatic screen presence and thier acting were consistently good even in bad movies . But in Alia's case her enigma is visible only to Mahesh Bhatt and few of her fans.

I am not saying that Alia is not good ,she is definitely a very good actor comparing to this era's bollywood actors but comparing her acting or stardom to Maduri or Sridevi is just overhype.

Lol so u think the more plausible explanation is that Bollywood is rallying behind aliaa coz they are all her pr or they are all kjo Chamchas😂…her pr goes and tweets things from completely unrelated peoples accounts/ tells them what to say in interviews (javed , Shabana, Balki, Samantha prabhu, jnr ntr, prabhas, anurag kashyap and ilk) …?

Yep Seems very likely kjo bought the entire Indian film industry to favour aliaa 😊….it has nothing to do with them voicing their own opinions …

The comparison is unfair. Different eras and Madhuri has already reached iconic status. No matter how many shit films/series, she will act in the future, it won't be pitted against her. Alia on the other hand is only 10 years old in the industry and has to deliver many more performances to reach that level. Let's see how Alia fares in her HW venture cos that won't be Karan's influence.

Absolutely loved what you said…agree with each word you said… to compare Alia to legends like Madhuri and Sridevi is truly hilarious… Alia is no doubt a good actor but so are other actresses… they are just waiting for good opportunities… to reach Madhuri and Sridevi’s level one just dosent need only acting but looks, charisma and magnetism as well which truly Alia lacks… warna har koi Shabana Azmi ko Madhuri aur Sridevi ke level ka star bulaane lag jaaye… Madhuri was an actor who could hv easily carried both Veronica’s role in cocktail and Alia’s role of Gangubai with equal ease… and here if you just consider Alia in Veronica’s role or Deepika in Gangubai’s role… they both will fail miserably… that’s the aura of Madhuri not achievable by both the actresses
