In your opinion, the hijab may be regressive but the women who wants to practice their faith don’t hold the same opinion. That’s the importance of respecting differences. Not everyone is going to agree or have the same perception and that’s fine.
You have your opinion about the hijab and I have mine. That’s the beauty of exercising our freedom of speech, freedom of choice and the freedom to practice our religion (whatever it may be).
I strongly believe that a woman should wear whatever they want, whether we like it or not doesn’t matter, because it’s their body and they have the right to decide whether they want to cover or reveal it.
Oppression goes both ways. Forcing a woman to cover up or wear certain clothings against her will is oppression. In the same light, forcing a woman to uncover and wear certain clothings against her will is also oppression.
I’m referring to hijabs only. I have family members and friends who never wore the hijab growing up, but when they started to practice their faith more, they began to put on the hijab. Change happens and it’s fine, so long as it’s not forced.
But the fight is about burqa. You open any news channel and you will see the protesting girls in black tents. I don't think hijab is an issue here so no point in debating over it unless you want to slyly support their demands for burqa by talking about hijab to fool around.
These girls in black tents are not hijabis who are blaming the gov for curbing their rights. Tell me is it the gov or the religion...which one is actually curbing their rights?
If it's mandated by religion, how is it about rights?
And if it is by choice, then they are defying the laws deliberately..
I'd like to know now your views on burqa and their demand to wear at places where there is certain dress code.
