Part-19

One morning, everyone was having breakfast. Raman and Aman were signalling each other. Swati saw them and signalled Ishita asking the matter but she was also clueless. Then Raman started,

R - So, Ma papa kal ke liye kya socha hai aap dono ne?

Mr and Mrs Bhalla looked at him and smiled thinking he would never forget the day.

Swati - Kyu kal kuch hai kya?

R - kuch nhi..bhot kuch hai kal.

I - Anything special?

R - Yes. Tomorrow is… Karwa chauth.

Mr and Mrs Bhalla's smiles faded and just nodded.

Swati - Karwa Chauth, jisme wifes apne husbands ke liye vrat rakhti hai.

Mrs Bhalla told them about all the rituals while Ishita looked at Raman excitedly but then changed her look when he looked back. Raman told Aman to help them in the preparations. After breakfast, Ishita was coming out of her room, taking her bag when she saw Raman standing at the door. She got conscious seeing him and was going, bidding bye to avoid him but he held her hand and stopped her.

R - Madam, Can you please tell me ki aap breakfast table par Karwa Chauth ka naam sun kar itni excited kyu ho rhi thi?

I - Main? Nhi to, vo to bas first time main yeh sab dekhungi to…

R - Exactly, sirf dekhogi, aur kuch nhi karogi aur khabardar agar tumne khud ko exert kia to..

Ishita made a face while Raman gave her a serious look and she just nodded, not having any other option. Raman left warning her while she sat sadly on the bed.

I (thinking) - Yeh to aise hi itna gussa ho rhe hai, agar inhe yeh pta chalega ki main fast rakhna chahti hu.. to kya karenge?? He will never allow me But I really want to do it..

Mrs Bhalla came there and asked the reason for her sadness. After much persuasion, she asked her if she could keep the fast for Raman.

Mrs Bhalla (smiling) - Jarur, tu rakh sakti hai Raman ke liye vrat.. hak banta hai tera..

Ishita got happy but not for much time.

Mrs Bhalla - Lekin agle saal, iss bar nhi. Puttar, tune yeh socha yhi dekh kar humhe bhot khushi mili lekin is condition mein pura din nirjal upvaas rakhna sahi nhi..na tere liye aur tere bacche ke liye. Next year, rakh lena vrat. Okay?

Ishita nodded sadly, then Mrs Bhalla told her that she couldn’t keep the fast but she could perform all the rituals along with her with utmost care and rest. Ishita hugged her happily.

In the afternoon, Ishita entered Raman’s room.

R - Hello, tum aa gayi office se? How’s the day?

I - Hmm, good.

R - Lunch kare?

I - Hmmm.

She wanted to say something but seeing him busy, couldn’t and turned to go. Raman held her hand, stopped her and made her sit in front of him.

R - Agar kuch kehna hai to bina kahe aise kyu ja rhi thi.

I - Nhi, it was not so important. you were busy so..

R - You can tell me anything, anytime and anywhere. Now tell me. Actually, I think I know tum kya kehna chahti ho. Yahi na ki tum kal fast ki rituals perform karne wali ho.

I - How do you know? Mummiji ne btaya?

R - Yes. But you promise me, you will take care of yourself. I don’t want….

I - Ha I know Raman. Aur vaise bhi aap ho, aapke vo do do detectives hai, sab hai.

R - Good. Let's go, lunch karte hai.

That night, Mr and Mrs Bhalla talked to Mr Iyer about announcing Ishra relationship officially through an engagement so that none could put a finger on Ishita. Mr Iyer expressed his gratitude towards them for taking care of him, his daughter, accepting his daughter and her child with whole heart and said that this time, he didn’t want to rush for anything. He knew that his daughter would not feel bad or low thinking of what the world was thinking about her and her child because she was getting the most needed love, care and respect from Bhallas which could overcome her every pain. They mutually decided to do the engagement after Mr Iyer got perfectly fine as her marriage was his long time pending desire to do.

Next day, everyone woke up early for the ritual of sargi as it was Ishita’s first karwa chauth, everyone was excited and joined them. As Mrs Bhalla had already allowed Ishita to perform all the rituals, they started it from sargi. She gave a new dress, a few accessories and sargi to her. Mr Bhalla was feeding sargi to Mrs Bhalla. Ishita was missing Raman. She was in her thoughts when he came from behind.

R - Sargi ko ghurne se kuch nhi hota, usse aise khana padta hai.

He said and forwarded a morsel. She was surprised and asked how he came.

R - I have my own sources. I got to know about all this so I came to be a part of this. Ab kha bhi lo.

Ishita looked around, everyone was looking at them, she felt conscious while all laughed at them.

Mrs Bhalla - Khale puttar, mera beta bade pyar se khila rha hai.. khale. sharma mat.

Raman fed her. On everyone’s insistence, Ishita fed Raman also. Raman had the food with everyone and then went back to his duty.

Ishita didn’t go to the office that day. Raman and Aman were doing some special preparations in the hall and restricted everyone’s entry. Swati and Ishita were enjoying the new atmosphere. Mrs Bhalla was explaining everything about the festival and rituals to Ishita and Swati. In the evening, Ishita, Swati and Mr Iyer came to the hall for the puja and were surprised to see the hall decorated like a party. Raman and Aman asked how everything was.

Swati - Itna decorations and all.. aisa lag rha hai jaise koi party hone wali hai.

I - Ha. Bhot special sa.. Is there something that you both are hiding?

Aman - Hmm, special to hai..

Swati - Kahi aap Ishita di ke liye to kuch special plan nhi kar rhe ho..

Ishita looked at Raman who smiled but denied.

R - No. Just wait for sometime, you will get to know everything. Till then, tum aur uncle aao yaha baitho, especially aap dono ke liye arrange kia hai, comfortable. Uncle dekhna aapki beti yaha se kahi na jaaye.

Aman and Swati took Raman aside and asked,

A - Vaise yeh sab to theek hai but Ishita ji ke liye kya kar rhe ho aaj?

S - Any gift?

R - Kya?

A - Vhi to hum puch rhe hai.. kya karne wale ho?

R - Tum dono ko naa sahi par mujhe bhot kaam hai.. Get me side..

Both blocked his way.

Swati - This is not done.

A - Bhai, aapko kaise samjhaye humhe bhi samajh nhi aata. Ek to aap dono ke pas khud ke liye time nhi hai, upar se jo time milta hai usme aap sochte reh jate ho. Aap kuch karoge ya nhi?

R - Yeh sab kia hai na..

A - Bhai, see chote bhai se pitoge, kya izzat reh jaayegi aapki? (Swati looked on) I mean.. main unse chota hu to..

S - It’s a special day, make it more special na.. you know what we are trying to tell you..

R - Tum dono na yeh lecture dena band karo. Mujhe pta hai mujhe kab kya karna hai.. I had already planned so both of you just stopped teaching me.

He said and left while Swati and Aman hi-fied, thinking that finally he was going to express his feelings. Slowly guests started coming. Ishita, Mr Iyer & Swati were surprised to see so many guests even from their office too. After sometime, Raman called Mrs and Mr Bhalla to come downstairs.

Mrs Bhalla - Itni jaldi kyu bulaya hai. Abhi to puja ka time bhi nhi hua..

Mr Bhalla - Arey Toshiji, main bta rha hu na.. vo bhulne ka drama kar rha tha. I’m sure he had planned some surprises for us.

Soon they reached the hall. A spotlight fell on them and everyone hooted for them. They were surprised. Raman and all came to them one by one and wished them for their anniversary.

Mr Bhalla - Dekha Toshiji, Main na keh rha tha ki yeh apna special day bhul sakta hai but hamara kabhi nhi.

Both father-son shared a sweet hug.

I - Dono kitna pyara bond share karte hai na Appa.

Mr Iyer - hmm, bacche aksar maa se jyada attached hote hai but yaha different hai.

I - Just like me and my Appa.

She said side hugging him.

Aman - I wish I could share the same bond with my father.

Ishita - Sooner or later, everyone gets their share of love and care.

She said with a sweet smile while he was trying to understand how she always understood his pain and sooth it so easily.

Ishita went to her room, sat on the bed and was thinking of the party, how almost everyone was staring at her and were gossiping about her and Raman. Her eyes got filled but before tears could fall from her eyes, Raman came to wipe them. She was in her thoughts when she felt his hand on her hand. He pressed her hand and gave an assuring look. She looked away to hide her feelings. He made her face him and said cupping her face.

R - I’m sorry, yeh sab meri vajah se hua.. I shouldn’t have arranged this party…

I - No, please aap sorry mat boliye. Aur meri vajah se aap uncle auntyji ka day celebration kyu cancel kare.. I’m fine vo bas thodi..

R - You are tired… fed up with all this nonsense. I’m sorry…

I - Aapko bura nhi laga? Aaj aapko gussa nhi aaya?

R - No, because a few days back, a pretty lady told me that we should not think what the world is thinking of us or how they are looking at us but we should think of our loved ones and the one who makes you feel special.

He said and hugged her, who smiled slightly at him and hugged him back. After some time, he sat in front of her on the floor, taking her hands in his.

R - Bardasht to mujhse bhi nhi hota, kisi ka bhi tumhe un gandi nazron se dekhna, tumhare aur hamare champ ke bare mein ulta seedha sochna, gossip karna, tumhari life mein interfere karna.. Man to bhot hai ki sabko muh tod jawab du, unka muh band karne ke liye to main bhot kuch kar sakta hu lekin hamari life ke decisions aur precious moments hum duniya ke pressure se kyu le.. Right, Miss Ishita Iyer?

Ishita nodded, smiling in between her tears.

R - Aur vaise bhi, yeh time, yeh moments phir nhi milenge humhe… u know parents ki permission lekar tumhe drive par le jana, chup chupke milna, yeh newly formed lovers ki tarah cheesy lines maarna, tareef karna, tumhe tease karna.. shadi ke bad to sab badal jaayega..

I - How? shadi ke bad drive par jana mna hai ya meri tareef nhi karoge?

R - No. Vo kya hai na madam, phir permission ya chupke se nhi, vaise hi hamesha tumhare pas rehna padega.. Aur tareef.. vo kya hai na ki abhi to tumhe jhuthi tareef bhi sacchi lagti hai lekin shadi ke bad sacchi tareef bhi tumhe jhuthi lagegi… abhi main tumhare peeche phool lekar bhagta hu phir tum danda lekar mere peeche bhagogi..

Ishita hit him. Both laughed. Raman admired her smile. Ishita saw him lost and asked what,

R - Mera dil to jald se jald tumhe aur is baby ko officially apna bna lena chahta hai.. don't know vo moment kab aayega… jab main tumhe Mrs Ishita Iyer Bhalla bulaunga..

He said with utmost love and sincerity in his eyes. Both shared a beautiful eyelock. Ishita kissed his forehead, making him surprised. He took her hands in his hands and looked deeply in her eyes.

R - Kuch kehna tha..

Ishita just nodded, trying to read his unspoken words.

Before he could say anything, Aman came from nowhere shouting for them, breaking their moment.

R - Kabab mein haddi..

Ishita smiled at him and pushed him away when Aman came there.

Aman - Bhai, aap log party chod kar yaha romance kar rhe ho.. I was searching for you both. Aap dono ko bahar bula rhe hai..

R - Kon? Ma papa..

Aman nodded. Ishita moved out of the room while Aman asked did he express his feelings but Raman hit him for coming and breaking the perfect moment.

As Ishra entered the party hall, Mr and Mrs Bhalla took Ishra in the centre and announced Ishita to be their daughter-in-law.

Mr Bhalla - Vaise to humne socha tha ki is announcement ke sath hi hum Raman aur Ishita ki engagement karwa denge lekin Mr Iyer ke health issues ke karan abhi yeh possible nhi. But tab tak, hamare friends aur neighbours jo abhi kuch der pehle hamari bhot fikra kar rhe the, unke liye yeh jaanna bhot jaruri hai ki Ishita Iyer hamari hone wali bahu hai aur uska baby hamara hone wala pota ya poti hai. Aap sab hamare apne hai, aap logo ka apmaan na karte huye hum hath jod kar aap sabse request karte hai ki aap sab hamare baccho ko aashirwad de.. kuch aur nhi.

Mr Bhalla and Mr Iyer requested, folding their hands in front of everyone while Mrs Bhalla gave a pair of neck chains to Ishita and baby both, as a sign of the beginning of their new relationship. Ishita’s eyes filled with tears of happiness. Raman held her hand and nodded in a no. She wiped her tears and smiled. Both took their elders’ blessings. After that, none spoke against Ishra relationship.

Raman and aman were signalling each other something raman asked his parents what they have thought about tommorow they got happy but their smile faded when raman said tommorow is karwachauth toshiji explained ishita and swati about karwachauth Ishita was excited but when raman looked at her she became normal raman said ishita she can't keep fast she got sad toshiji made her understand raman gave suprise party to his parents ishita and mr.iyer were admiring mr.bhalla and raman bond ishita felt bad seeing people staring at her and gossiping ishra scene was lovely ramans parents announced ishitas is their would be daughter in law and her baby ishita their grand child and requested everyone not to badmouth ishita and give their blessings ishita got emotional raman hugged her
