There is absolutely nothing wrong with being inspired by or making remakes. Almost every other movie in Hollywood is based on comics or books or games or rides etc. Shakespeare's plays have been adapted into several movies across the globe. The important thing is to acknowledge the inspiration and give it your own spin.
Bollywood gets flak because people tried to pass on things as original without acknowledging the actual original.
A recent example that can be used as comparison of taking inspiration, without acknowledging the sources and using the proverbial "own spin" is: Dhamaka ( I do not dislike the lead) BUT they hyped it up, made a big to do about the leads issues in other films and tried to build up the film on things that had nothing to do with the actual film, so once the release and the gossip is over, no one remembers the gossip and you are left with the work product: a mediocre film with muddled story telling filled with copy and paste "borrowed" from various sources, something that almost never works, because the "spin" they tried to put on it is too strained, it is not clever (and to quote the film-The public knows) it is not original, the performances lack sincerity and the story is badly told. I had to fast forward it and as I watched it, I was reminded of Money Monster (and others) with George Clooney and Julia Roberts.
