Wow, the thread is still open 🤓

Interesting new topic that has come up about taking care of parents and in-laws. I am so glad our society moved on (only to an extent) from massive joint families to nuclear families. The expectations of the girl moving into her in-laws is still prevalent and is so unhealthy (having faced it first hand), but at least the poor girl doesn't have to bear with the overbearing additional relatives. It is not ideal, but better at least.

And the couple, if a sensible one, would move on from the parents house and live on their own, and have a family of their own. I have found it to be way healthier for the relations with in-laws as well. The clash of how things should be done i.e tu-tu main-main between saas bahu, is the crappiest of fights on this planet. It has no base, no sense and is totally avoidable.

Khud se raho, if you can afford to (warna shaadi mat karo). Saath mein rahoge toh jhik jhik hogi hi. 4 adults so closely related living in one house for extended periods of time is a disaster in the making (I wish someone had given me this advice initially - would have saved me a couple years of nuisance. Now we all have such healthy and happy relationships

The concept of joint families need to go if we want to make progress in removing patriarchy from society.

I may get accused of thinking West is more "cool", but I do think their way of parenting is much better where kids are expected to leave the house when they turn adults.

The change can honestly happen when parents stop expecting their kids to take care of them in old age.

For that they first need to raise their kids in such a way that they become independent when they turn adults, and they too are independent enough to take care of themselves in old age.

Unfortunately India as a country is still not developed enough to provide good facilities to senior citizens. So parents expecting their kids to take care of them in old age is not completely wrong either.

But at least they should stop giving everything up for their kid till they're capable of, only to make them repay in old age. Have a life of your own and don't make it revolve around your kids. Our parents may not understand this but we can. The ball would be in our court when we become parents and it would be our choice on how we want to shape the next generation and the future of society.

Obviously this would lead to little sufferings for everyone involved, but that would be better than all sufferings given to women only.

Our society is such a tuchi waste that even if we do party in 7 star hotel they will find some fault. Couple are better off spending money on themselves and their future.

Why such strict outlines for how a wedding should be?

It is their money. They can do whatever they want with it. Whether spending it on their wedding or donating it or buy drugs off it. Their life, their money, their choice. I do not understand why people have a problem with others having big weddings.

If someone is being forced to fast for a douchebag husband .....even a sweet tradition like KC becomes horrible....

KC or Teej has its roots in patriarchy. There was nothing WILLFULL about it for many years. It has become willful now for some just like KD.

We are an 80% Hindu majority country. Hinduism will be the religion at the forefront, whether it is praising the religion or criticising it.

You watch movies from the UK and US. Christianity is the majority religion there and they have plenty of movies and shows mocking christianity and jesus. Have you ever watched south park? Look for an episode called 'Red Hot Catholic Love' - this ad will feel like tele-tubbies in front of it.

They even have serious, mainstream movies tackling problems that are prevalent in Christianity. It is very common. And sure there are staunch, orthodox christians who have a problem with these movies and shows and call for their ban, but these movies and shows are still made.

I do not know much about movies and shows in middle eastern and islamic countries, so cannot really comment on that.

Even in this thread, people are claiming Hindu-phobia amongst other people who are most likely Hindus. The criticism is coming from Hindus, many of them practicing Hindus. There is no real threat to Hinduism, besides politics and politicians.

You fall in the same boat. Maybe, I shouldn't take you seriously either. You liked (hearted, actually) a comment which called me a supporter of patriarchy and also the one where I called out the said member's lie.

Also, that post didn't taunt you for getting likes. It taunted you for NOT getting likes when you pointed out some practices of another religion.

I quoted you. Didn't accuse you of something you didn't say. You did type that KC (or Teej) and RB were beautiful while KD was derogratory.

Leave everyone, just look at my own mother.

My dad is from a pure Brahmin family, my mom's dad is Brahmin but my grandma(mom's mom) is Tamang(not Brahmin), so my dad's parents used to discriminate her during religious functions and all that, not eat rice/dal cooked by her and all that shit.

But still that has not changed gotten the caste system away from her, like she doesn't discriminate people on regular basis, her best friend is also someone from the so called lower caste, but whenever there is religious rituals or something like some festival season, she is like, do not eat at XYZ's house, they are from lower caste, and I am like "what, so all the years of discrimination and you still encourage it", and all she says is, "don't try to act smart, this is something going on through centuries, so you think our ancestors were stupid", and than I ignore her like I ignore social media trolls😆.

So I have realised that this system is seriously fcked up.

Leave my mom, she is still Hindu, I have seen many Hindus converted to Christianity, and still have that caste system mentality. I am like astonished by all that😆

That's because it's difficult to accept that something you've been led to believe all your life is wrong and just meaningless. The older you are the more difficult it becomes to change your thinking.

Because then you would have to accept that your whole or majority of your life is a lie, that majority of your life you believed in something wrong.

You need to be humble and strong minded to accept that your belief was wrong for a long time. For your own peace of mind it's much better to do all the mental gymnastics to justify your belief no matter what.

It is almost like the instagram syndrome. I am going to follow people richer and better off than me, but I am not going to be happy about it when they shared stuff from their lives. And I will make judgements on them and their life choices.

She is a great actress, but I think she pays off Filmfare. Her rich husband makes sure she is taken care of. What do you think?
