I understand where you're coming from. But I still don't see an issue with her pronunciation. You can not know English, have an accent and still be intelligent/be a bookwork/eager for knowledge because there is simply no correlation between language and intellect. An explanation for her English pronunciation could be that she simply lost her eagerness to learn or educate herself after she stepped foot into the Shah house. The Shahs have a tendency to completely drain a person of their gist for life. Her kids never helped her learn either. Rather they would constantly put her down.

And yes, you are right. I think many, if not all, have an issue with her 'sori' not because of her accent but because she is unnecessarily apologetic. She does this is out of habit. And old habits die hard.

I 100% agree with the whole 'maa' theory. That is a bit too much. It is irritating if I am being honest. Especially how Anupamaa was in the whole Paakhi situation. Got on my nerves. But I don't see how that and this topic are related. I also don't know if I was able to properly convey what I have been trying to say. 😆

Maybe you are right about her eagerness to learn being quashed by the shahs. That would explain why she hasnt had any personal growth throughout the years. Soo maybe i got judgemental a bit too soon. Soo sorry for that 😅

No i do infact think that there is a certain correlation with people being eager to learn with the language they speak. I have seen a lottttt of people who are intellectually excellent trying to learn as many languages and cultures as possible in an effort to understand things from a different perspective. Also being equipped with proper language skills in your arsenal goes a long way in preparing you for the outside world.

The way i see her maa theory being connected to this topic is in the way that a normal educated woman knows her self worth and is sure of herself and her own individuality. Her entire being revolves around her identity as a mother. She keeps using "maa" as an excuse to justify all her illogical behavior and nonsense lectures. And that looks not only an over glorification of mothers but also looks like a deliberate attempt to show her more uneducated than she really is

I belong to the region where we have the habit of pronouncing "sha" as "sa". Even people with good command on English, pronounce sa instead of sha. Forget English words, even Hindi words are also pronounced like that. This is because we have acquired the accent of our Mother tongue. So, some people speak like that also.

Anupama might have taken home science. Dont know Gujarat mein school mein 12 th kya syllabus rakhte hain. So I am assuning that anupama might have took home science

I might not be correct but even back in days school did teach basic English classes. We were ruled over for nearly 300 years so at least they might have taught at least 3-4 classes. Out of topic but in our culture English is overrated - isn't it just a language like any other. Why make it a big deal - relating it to high class and education - Bollywood and ITV should stop doing this.

But apart from English someone who is highschool graduate is educated enough, what i don't get is why they keep pulling that unpadh thing over and over. To learn language you don't need education, just enough exposure is enough.

Even while staying at home as she taught Pakhi dancing - she could have taught herself few new things from her kids books. Don't we all learn as we grow.

It's just that makers can't get any creative.

I am still confused how could she go to college when she got married at 18.

I thunk creatives got mixed up. They could have called Anyj a school freind instead of college.

She went to college for roughly a year before she was forced to dropout and was married to Vanraj. During the holi episode they stated that she wanted to continue her studies, but Baa and Vanraj were against it... but they always ensured to taunt her about not being educated.

I think she probably struggles due to all the taunts that made her think that she is useless and under qualified for anything... she lead a very submissive life; she would literally stutter out of fear of Vanraj. She was emotionally abused by, just about anyone. She is still abused... like when Rakhi and Kavya accused her of trying to woo Vanraj back in her life... or Vanraj (audacity of this man) thinking that Anuj favors Anu as they were a couple. Not to mention Baa- like Bapuji said "Vanraj ka affair bardasht kar payi, per Anupama ki dosti nahi"... but she is a stronger person now, and more confident in herself.

Maybe she should just kick them out and lead a happy life by herself.

Baa answred ki anupama 12 th pass hai. To rakhi ne kaha ki toshu tumne bataaya nahin ki tumhaari mother graduate bhi nahin hai

If xyz school is up to 12 th then we address that school xyz inter college like girls inter college

And if xyz school is upto 10 then we adress it as xyz high school

Nope in Gujarat it is still School.

1-7th is primary, 8-10th is secondary and 11-12th are higher secondary/high school.

When you actually pass 12th and enter a degree college then it is college. Diploma though is another story.

I have seen jo school sirf 10 th tuk hote they unki fare wale party hoti jo 10 th class ke student hote they to jub program hota tha to 10 th ke class student khud kehte they ki ab woh college jaa rahe hain

Saare school me 11 12 th class nahin hota hai

You are right, but normally state ki education system per depend krta he.

All over Gujarat this is fixed standard, you will never see a school with just 10th grade program. Guj board/ icse/ cbse - doesn't matter- all have to follow the same.
