Did Anupama actually go to college?

I did not think Anupama was that educated. If she went to college then not sure why she struggles with english and outdoor work.

Thank you for somebody bringing this up. Can someone answer how anupama is shown to be so uneducated like a village girl who dropped out of school very early? She was in full-time education till the age of 19 attending for 1 year college.... so how on earth is she so uneducated? 😳

I mean I get her struggling with laptop, because in the 26 years since she married and dropped out of college she was restricted to just doing house chores and nothing else, so she wouldn't have learn to use new technology like the current modern laptops.

The thing is that 26 yrs ago not every school or college had compulsory english medium classes. She may have studied in a regional or hindi medium school.

My mother is educated too and knows a lot of things and is a teacher and still cannot speak fluent english and she is certainly younger than anupama.

Some of her words like "sori" are probably an exaggeration and makers are taking a "creative liberty" to show her a little more uneducated than she actually is.

I mean they have shown bapuji and baa understand more english and with better pronounciation than she does

Soo i guess they really really loved sridevi's english vinglish 😆

Ok I don't really know indian education system at all so I couldn't understand but I guess if before college she attended a school that didn't really specialise in teaching english, then it makes sense why she doesn't know english well although it makes me curious what course she was taking in college then and what career aspirations she had.

The rest is clear over-exaggeration then about how uneducated she is just for dramatic effect lol

Story of Anupama is quite similar to my Mother in Law. She has studied B.Sc. in Botany after studying till 12th in vernacular medium. She still cannot speak fluently in English and has a thick South Indian accent. She has never done any outside transactions and has been within the confines of her home looking after her 3 children, husband, his numerous siblings and in laws. My fil had flings outside which she was aware of and chose to stick to the marriage due to the fear of society and children’s future. Her mil was same as baa...whatever son did is correct and perfect. Now after her children got married and she had grandkids, she has guts to oppose him. That is mainly due to the support of her well settled children.

So Anupama is very relatable to me and doesn’t look like exaggeration to me. Things like that happen in every household. My mother herself is educated in a com. She still cannot speak fluent English or Hindi for that matter. However, she is amazing in getting things done and money matters.

I agree! After Anuj track began, I went back to watch episodes #25 and #26 on hotstar where Devika was visiting and she talked about college days and Anuj’s crush on her. She mentioned Anupama was class topper. 😀 Whatever course she was doing, a topper would know basic english IMO.

Anupama is 12 th pass .anupama ki shaadi 18 year ki age mein ho gayi thi

Anupama ke paas abhi bhi 12 th class ke exam ka admit card rakha hai ( it wasshow on begening of serial)

Anupama might have taken home science. Dont know Gujarat mein school mein 12 th kya syllabus rakhte hain. So I am assuning that anupama might have took home science

Anupama is 12th pass . Surprisingly she doesn’t know how to speak sorry word even after studying till 12 standard in the school . They are copying English Vinglish too much lol and of course copying Sridevi’s signature expressions too .

Khuch log ko khuch word bolne mein problem hoti hai Even educated logon ko problem hoti hai. I have seen my school ki teacher roj student se reading lag wali thi but phir bhi khuch student ko khuch word pahanchane mein muskhil hoti hai aur hakla hakla ke padhte they.

Waise bhi jub koi hindi side mein padtha hai to usme koi prounciation mein jor nahin deta hai

Kyonki hindi medium mein student hindi mein hi baat karte hain to teacher ko kaise pata chale koi student english mein kaise baat kar raha hai

English school mein to teacher strict bolti thi ki english mein hi baat karni hai nahin to fine lagega to jub english mein jub boti thi aur koi galat english bolta to teacher use batati thi yahan tum galat bol rahe ho

Aur plus ghar ka envirroment bhi hota hai

Anupama ke ghar ka envirroment waise nahin tha ki jahaan pur english bolne mein jor diya jaata

I have seen in english medium school only there was girl who was best in study but not much good in english. So when I talk to her then she said ki mere ghar mein english bolne ka envirroment nahin hai

Why do people confuse being educated with having a good command over the English language? English may be a universally spoken language but it is not the hallmark of intelligence. A lot of people also have an issue with the way she pronounces some of the words like sorry and thank you. Can we please stop associating South Asian accents with being uneducated? If you have a problem with her accent, please introspect. There are hundreds of thousands languages spoken around the world and with those come hundreds of thousands of accents. Some of the brightest minds in the world don't speak in English but in their own native languages. Does that compromise their education?

Anupamaa must have studied in Guajarati all through junior and middle school. Her limited experience with English happened only when she attended college and that too for just a year. As for her struggles with outdoor work, her wings were clipped by her husband and mother-in-law for 26 years. Her life was within the four walls of that house from the age of 19 to this day. She never got the opportunity to learn to be independent. Even now, though she is divorced, the fact that she still resides in that wretched house means her independence has its limitations. You cannot learn when you have shackles on your feet (Vanraj, Baa and Toshu, her own mental/social conditioning) constantly holding you back. Mental health is very complex. She will get there. It's just going to take a long time.
