Bridge being ripped away by floodwater

More than 150 people have been killed in Nepal, and hundreds of tourists are missing, after a massive flash flood and mudslide

The missing tourists include more than 100 from India, 54 from the US, and 33 from the UK, as well as more than 100 from Nepal itself, according to Nepal's tourist board. The area is popular with pilgrims and trekkers.

In Tibet, Chinese state media report three dead and 265 missing. CCTV from Tibet shows a wall of water and mud hitting buildings at a border crossing.

Dozens of Nepalese police officers and army personnel are also missing, as well as power workers. My family was swept away in front of me, one woman tells us - she and her son survived by climbing to a rooftop.

Authorities initially thought an earthquake may have preceded the flooding - but the US Geological Survey now says the "seismic energy was instead generated by a landslide"

Foreign Minister Penny Wong says the government is working to ascertain the welfare of Australians in the flood-affected areas.

“The loss of life and destruction caused by flash flooding in Nepal and China is devastating,” she said on X.

“Our thoughts are with the loved ones of those killed or missing and all affected by this disaster.

My heart goes out to everyone affected by the flood/Earthquake. My deepest sympathies are with all those who have been impacted by the tragic flood. It's really sad to hear about all the hardship and loss so many people are going through. I hope communities can come together to support each other during this incredibly tough time. May there be a swift recovery and healing for everyone affected. Sending thoughts of strength and comfort to all.🕊

What a terrible tragedy! Most of the footages online are just so terrifying to watch. So fast, so sudden that people did not even stand a chance to flee. Minimal chances of their bodies being found even. Mother Earth just devoured them completely.

To all the departed souls, Om Shanti.

Force of Nature doesn't consider what will get destroyed... it just (re-)acts.

Deeply saddened for every life swept away and/or burried under earth and water in surprise or helpless angst. Sad for those who survived but lost dear ones in the flash of a moment.

Thankful for every day nothing deadly happens to my family and me...
